YouFibre Doorstop Caller

[link to this post]

Had a doorstop caller visit yesterday from YouFiber. I told them straight away I was happy with my current ISP. The YouFiber representative then claimed they was giving away a “free car” followed by “that’s a joke.” He then asked who my current ISP was and I said I still wasn’t interested.

I avoid ISPs that do door to door sales as it gives off a red flag and how the sales rep spoke to me sent off even larger red flags. I wouldn’t switch to YouFibre even if they claim to be faster than my current ISP due to their sales tactics.

With Altnets I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing as if they've cabled up a location they obviously want people on their network to make it worthwhile and going door to door is a good way of raising awareness.
Personally speaking, if youfibre made their service available where I am, I'd sign up in a flash. 900Mb up and down for £30 a month, yes please

That's what's putting me off when they go live here, a lot of people do change over with door to door sales (NTL done it back in the day and areas suffered) - and areas become super congested.

That's just sales language, if it went down exactly as you said then I think this is an overreaction. They didn't make up claims about copper being switched off leaving you without service for example, they were just a bit more persistent than you might have liked.

Salesmen are salesmen and unless they lie it wouldn't stop me taking up the product they are selling at a time of my choosing. I don't do door knockers whatever they are selling but I would go away and do my research and if it looked good for me call them up at my convenience and sign up.

TBH I don't think congestion is a significant problem today -- e.g. YouFibre is using XGS-PON so unless their splits are silly there should be plenty of capacity per customer. Even if congestion were to become a significant problem, consumers could use their rights under the Consumer Rights Act on the basis that congestion is evidence that the service is not being performed with reasonable care and skill.

NTL often inherited coax networks that were built for TV distribution and basically had too many homes per segment for data. The 1999 trial in the ex-CableTel area at Guildford didn’t teach them enough, until speeds went up the problem then became obvious.

It does sound like a sloppy door-to-door salesman needing more training.
Even so I wish YouFibre would get on and connect my road. It has been 'planned' for a long while and I'm still waiting for the inviting email from them.
YouFibre appears a company that deserves to do well but I do have two niggles with them.
The £30 is a teaser rate. Although there are no in-contract price hikes, it jumps upon renewal of contract.
YouFibre has three tiers of phone prices. You would think that now the switchboard operator has gone long ago there would be one rate for all calls within the UK.
