When I go to http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway/ it says:
You are currently connected to the "unknown" gateway
Sounds ominous! I think I'm normally on telehouse west (if that's the right name). Is this a usertools glitch, or am I connected to some new super-secret system?
|
|
|
Possibly a glitch, drop me a PM with your username and I'll double check which gateway you're on and try and see what's going on.

Thanks Chris, but it seems to be a glitch that has resolved itself. It now says:
You are currently connected to the "City Lifeline, Juniper 10" gateway. This gateway is sometimes known as pcl-ag03.
Which is nowhere near as exciting.
Thanks again.

I'm jealous now! I wanted to be connected to the "Unknown Gateway". Instead, I'm connected to plain old Telehouse North, Juniper 2.
"City Lifeline" at least sounds more interesting than that, and certainly more crucial!

I've just got this as well.
"You are currently connected to the "unknown" gateway."

This has happened in the past when a new gateway was added but the tool was not updated to be able to identify it.

I'm getting this too just now - and also some massive connectivity problems which are preventing me from browsing most sites; getting on here has taken a few goes!

Hi John,
I've got your PM, I'll have a look at it shortly. If the problems are with name resolution then yes, it's more than likely due to the DNS issues.
Was it a recorded message telling you there is a long wait to CS? As at the moment there are 0 calls in the queue http://csc.plus.net

I had a recorded massage saying a 10 min wait, I held on for fifteen.
Web service seems to have come back over the last 5 mins (1730 approx). still no voip though.
BTW thanks for a speedy reply. Its the first hitch I've had so far, since being with +net

Are the DNS issues a Plusnet problem directly or a symptom of something further upstream?
I've been having problems today with some websites being slow or not opening at all at times & I use OpenDNS.

I've been experiencing problems too for past few hours with websites not loading or taking more than one attempt to finally load.
I don't think it is a DNS problem. When I ping known websites, DNS appears to resolve the URLs to IP addresses. Whether the IP address is correct is another matter though...
But if I run tracert to the same websites, it is very slow and may not even progress beyond the first plusnet gateway. Looks more like a routing problem.
I just reset my connection again. Now presently connected to Juniper 2 and everything is workiing for the moment. (Sorry, forgot to note what gateway I was previously connected to, prior to reseting the ISP connection)
Correction: using Juniper 2, not 3 gateway

We're currently investigating reports of webpages failing to load at the first attempt or taking longer than normal to appear. When browsing directly to the IP address of the same sites they are loading correctly without problems.
Our networks team are investigating this and we'll provide more information when we have it.
Sorry about any inconvenience this may be causing.

Google Maps is now not loading at all for me. I don't know if it's coincidental, or all part of the same problem.

Yes, I saw that posting earlier.
Still not 100% convinced the statement is correct from what I'm seeing unless there is another problem....
For TLM: map.google.co.uk works okay here.
No slow downs.
I'm connected via Juniper 2 gateway
my dns servers are
212.159.6.10
212.159.6.9
Correction: using Juniper 2, not 3.

Re Google Maps: the site is reachable, it just won't load any maps. It sits there forever, trying to load.

Chris,
Looks like I'm back to normal. I've set the router to opendns settings.
Voip, that still wasn't working, so this fixed it: I have two voip lines, one is on port 5060, the other 5061. I swaped the ports between the two lines, Voip now works. I've had this before, would I be correct in thinking a stale session could be to blame.
Thanks
John

It's working here.
From a cmd prompt try: ipconfig /flushdns

I've tried two gateways now. I was formerly on Telehouse North. I'm now on Telehouse East, but it has not improved matters. I still don't know if the Google problem is anything to do with the rest, but it seems likely, as I've never had any problems with the maps until now.

fwiw, I've tried Juniper 2, 6 and 8, they seem to be working fine here with map.google.co.uk here.

The Google problem has cleared up now.
I think it probably was all part of the same thing, as I have been having similar problems to you, but can't be more specific than "some websites aren't working sometimes". There didn't seem to be any particular pattern. I couldn't get Google Maps to work at all, MSN kept losing the connection, and a site I had on auto-refresh kept losing the datastream.

Hmmm. OK here, so far, on Telehouse North, Juniper 1.
I have been experiencing DNS-type problems intermittently for - I would say - a few weeks now. At first I put it down to some new enterprise software rolled out by my employers (it's a work laptop), but the more time goes on, the more I think it's not that.
It's not every day, or even every week, which surely it would be, if it was down to something that had altered at this end.
And I notice it almost exclusively from late afternoons onwards, never in the mornings.
I thought maybe exchange congestion, but the symptoms suggest connectivity issues, NOT speed. If I do a speedtest during one of the affected periods (if I am lucky enough to be able to connect to a speedtest), it will typically show I am getting average, or even better than average speeds.
