Upstream sync capped at 448kbps (ADSL2+)

[link to this post]

Although I've "upgraded" to Plusnet Pro (moved to ADSL2+ from ADSLMax), apparently the upstream sync is capped at 448kbps - so says the reply to a ticket I have on the go at the moment anyway. The reason given is to prevent line instability.

So how come everyone else in the universe on ADSL2+ is syncing at 1Mbps+ upstream quite happily, I wonder...

Anyone else come across this issue?

[Yes I have an open ticket for this, just thought I'd poll others' views in the meantime]

Will post them when I get home - at work at the moment.

I know that the upstream noise margin is something ridiculous like 2147483647dB, which I'm guessing is done to enforce the lowest sync rate (the reply to my original ticket says that they like to keep users at the minimum so it's clearly deliberate).

My downstream noise margin was 3dB when I looked the other day (sync at about 15Mbps)

I'll post proper figures later.

We do 2 different uploads on ADSL2+, there is no additional cost for the higher one. We set it at 448 on new installs simply for stability, it only really tends to affect lines that see lower than 5/6Mb anyway so I can't see any issues on altering yours to the higher speed.

If you want to let me know a ticket number from your account, or your username I'll go place an order to remove the restriction.

It's a bug in the reporting by the router firmware. Speedtouch 585 I think?

Happens with Netgear too.

Maybe not Speedtouch then. I thought it was Netgear, but mine is OK - 834PN. SO I guessed I was remembering ST.

One modem reboot later, and it's running along happily at 1001kbps upstream, 15Mbps downstream. That's more like it grin

Rather low sync for your attenuation. see my sig

Thats with 19db downstream attenuation

Hmmmm. Chipset issue perhaps? I have a DG834G v2.

I also had trouble with a burglar alarm upsetting the line during last year so that my IP profile (on old ADSL) was reduced to 135kbps for days at a time. I wonder if there is some legacy from that...

Also when I first had ADSL2+ enabled (24 Dec) my Netgear didn't have the latest firmware in it and would only sync at around 7Mbps until I upgraded it... could the training period have been affected by this?

I've rejigged all my phone lines now so that all extension lines hide behind a filter at the master socket end of the line, so I shouldn't be getting any interference, and as you say with those line stats I ought to be getting higher rates.... any clues as to why this might not be happening?

Good heavens - I've just realised how high those line speeds are, are you actually inside the exchange?!?

Your noise margin is 8 which is a bit higher than it could be. How low does it drop during the evening? It may be that BT have set a slightly higher target noise margin because of your earlier problems and that will be restricting your speed. If that is the case you may find the sync speed rises again in the next few weeks.
