Having seen a post about treewalk about three weeks ago I decided to give it a spin. It certainly seems to have improved things for me.

I think common practice is for ISPs to use dhcp to set the router WAN interface IP address, even where the IP address is static. So dns, gateway and IP address are all set by dhcp.

I think the OP meant a static RFC1918 address for the PC so that wouldn't matter
