yes but he never said he was downloading http at full speed at the sametime as running p2p really slowly. did he? hence my suggestion. I am not precluding the shaping, but equally doesn't preclude the exchange...yet

Hi HTTP are used during the day early evening And as a rule i dont use P2P during the day/Evening it kicks in at 11.30pm till 3,30pm So the d/l's dont usually happen at the same time. However I have knoticed that P2P during the day 9.00am ish to 3.30pm is not as fast as during the night though which i would expect and at one time thought peak would be somthing like 11pm to 7.0am

my understanding is no it would not be all the time for all downloads. Yes it would be for all downloads at the same time. But without knowing if you have a whole bunch of people downloading during the night, or peak, you wouldn't really know, other than looking to see if BT acknowledge a capacity problem. Unless you have a bunch of people downloading all day all the time and using enough to fill the exchange capacity It is only ofcourse a possibility.
Other options are bad line conditions.
ISP overall capacity and contention kicking in.
ISP shaping.

All I am doing is presenting all the options for elimination.

Hello I take your point however , I Have read the limits and it says 20gig peak and upto 200g off peak I have never reached the of peak by a long long way and at most 15g peck so am well within. MY usage. So if they are not happy with peopl using the amount they allow. !!! WHY !! say YOU can use this amount in the first place?

They say high limits to get people to sign up to them, knowing most people won't get anywhere near the limits.
If you do download what is in their opinion too much you will get throttled to you leave,
as you aren't a cost effective customer.

I prefer the ways of checking that don't rely on BT noticing the congestion, i.e. there can be a week or two difference, i.e. it can say green when performance is actually red.

Andrew - would you suggest any sure fire way that proves it is an ISP at fault and not an exchange or contention? If there is such a way?
