Possible problem on your portal

[link to this post]

Hi

I have just logged onto your portal Uername guest and Password guest and immediately on clicking forums, got a popup PM box

From: removed for identity protection
To: guest
Posted: 08 May 2007 16:36
Subject: Re: other packages while logged in
Thanks for the tip. I'm using Firefox on Linux and the method doesn't work for me if I open another Firefox tab or a separate instance of Firefox. But when I logged in to my account through the Epiphany browser and then logged in as guest in Firefox it worked.

If you want the username it came from feel free to PM me.

Ged

Probably would have been better to post in the Portal Forums (since you were logged in as Guest), or fire an email to one of us - but I'll answer anyway. This is not a problem as such. This is quite simply that someone has sent a PM to the 'guest' user on the Portal Forums.

The 'guest' user is setup in phpbb as a normal user but with low permissions only to post in the Free Dialup forum. I will see if it's possible to disable the ability to send/receive PMs, however, as I can see it could be confusing.

I hope that clears it up for you.

I don't think we can remove the permission Liam.

IIRC we can successfully remove the permission, but it resets itself once a new user/IP signs in using the guest account.

I can't remember the exact details, but I think there is a reason, perhaps tied to the portal/PN account integration, that causesit to be this way.
