Don't you just hate it when...

[link to this post]

... two days before your monthly payment becomes due you have to buy another 2Gb.

I'm a PAYG user with low requirements, I have 2Gb included in my monthly charges and buy extra 2Gb as and when I need to. Some months I do and some I don't. My busiest month ever I needed 6Gb all told - so I'm not a major downloader especially compared with some who visit this board.

Now I already understand the reasons for the way the charging is applied and I accept that there is probably stuff I could do about it, but I think I get a goodish deal as I am and don't much want to change. My relatively minor gripe is that I wish that when I have paid for extra download allowance that it wouldn't disappear in a puff of smoke at midnight on my charging date. Wouldn't it be nice if those PN people could give me say 30 days in which to use the extra allowance rather than stiffing me out of most of the

I felt the same but have now switched to BBYW Option 2 which means that I now have 8Gb to use before there is any additional charge, which I have never got anywhere near yet. As the peak time on BBYW is the same as PAYG there is no penalty there, and for my usage I have not seen any difference in speed.

If you manage to switch before your billing date you will not pay for this month's extra either.

I have exactly the same profile and usage as you. I recently changed to BBYW Opt 2 as it included 8 GB. There are some restrictions on a few uses like P2P but I don't do any such things so it seemed a better deal. I have mentioned to PlusNet that I thought the restrictions are not made very clear with BBYW products. I had assumed there were no restrictions similar to PAYG.

In reply to:

I would guess a lot of Plusnet customers do not realise there are restrictions [rate limits/traffic shaping] on their account.

I suspect the majority would not even know what it meant, complaints about slow speeds have been frequently met with the old 'it's a contended service' card.

It is pretty clearly stated on the site if you dig around for it, but understanding what it all means is a different matter.

Similar here...
I used to go over the threshold until I started relying on the usage watch facility to make sure I didn't pick up extra costs without warning just before the end of the month.
And I've also moved to BBYW2 and not seen any slow-down except for some specific tests on the speeds of the usage where speeds are limited during peak hours. Those speeds are a bit slower than I saw on PAYG, but not dreadful.

Well that makes 2 votes for BBYW opt 2. Maybe I should pull my finger out and investigate after all....

Thanks all for the advice.
