referring a new customer

[link to this post]

I have a friend who is looking for an ISP. She has signed up with Sky and had 7 months of misery but no broadband.

She will only be a light user, probably the option 2 product but will want a wireless router, how can she get that? How much will it cost?

After endless problems with Sky, she needs some reassurance that whatever ISP she chooses will actively pursue the issues that prevent her from getting broadband. (To summarise, she had a dacs splitter, it has been removed, her neighbour that she was 'split' with now has broadband. I believe this teels you all that I am aware of that is relevant) When you phone Sky they deal with it at the time but as soon as the phone is hung up, they stop and no progress gets made - that is not acceptable.

Can someone from Plusnet answer these points and subject to the reponse, I will recomend Plusnet to her.

Thanks

If going with Option 2 then a wireless router will cost

Your friend should seriously consider buying her own router if the Sky one won't work on PlusNet - I just bought a Speedtouch 585 with a USB adapter from here http://www.speedtouchonline.com/index.asp? for

If the Sky router has now become her property and does not have to be returned all it needs is to be flashed with the Netgear firmware to remove the Sky embedded stuff.

The Netgear site will have the latest version I am sure. Too good a router to discard if it is yours now.

Edit typo.

Thanks for all the advice

I'm not so sure about using the Sky router, irrespective if she is 'allowed' to keep it.

A big part of the issue is that she is not computer literate, she uses a pc daily in her work but its just word/excel and a work related application, like a lot of people she neither knows nor cares what goes on inside the box and for the sake of less than 30 quid she can get a wirelesss router that should work out of the box - that would be imprtant to her

Customer service is the same, the whole DACS situation was the ruination of her, she needs someone to make her internet light flash, thats the bottom line!

Thanks

I know a few people who have bought one of these.

B grade and only 30 day warranty granted, but they look new and work.

If my friend signs up for Option 1 can she upgrade to Option 2 within the first year without any penalities, or vice versa?

Yep, your friend could do either of those. The only time a "penalty" would apply is if someone signed up for option 3 or 4 and chose the deferred hardware and then downgraded to option 1 or 2 when they would have to pay the hardware charge.
