Unless I've been looking at the wrong line...

You're syncing at 8128Kbps.

Ooh looks good - tried a reboot as suggested and I've got the following:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7968 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 18.5 db
Noise Margin 6.2 db 23.0 db

If anything this seems substantially better than it was at any point before I started having these problems- just going to keep an eye on it for a bit just in case, and maybes try and speed test and will post back in a bit (just got in from work...)

Looks good!

Rebooting/re-sync'ing when it is dark gives lower sync's than in daylight. In fact the best time at this time of year is 11am-2pm. So you can try that at the weekend.

As it is, if you can re-sync in the morning before you go to work you may find an improvement then as well .

I see what you mean:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 18.5 db
Noise Margin 6.6 db 23.0 db

Will check again tonight and then have a "play" over the weekend and let you know how I get on...

If you re-sync tonight it will very possibly be slightly slower, like last night. Your attenuation is borderline for the full 8128 so will be dependent on actual noise level at that the time you connect.

If speeds are OK I wouldn't bother, as your IP Profile is now set at 7Mbps and will probably take 4-5 days at 8128 to get back to 7150. A lower sync tonight will keep it at 7Mbps and a re-sync tomorrow in daylight, if it gets the 8128 which it probably will, would restart that 4-5 days.

Best left alone now.

Edit - And if you "play" make sure you don't disconnect/reconnect more than 5 or 6 times in an hour. The figure is supposed to be 10 times in an hour will almost certainly cause interleaving to be turned on probably costing you 512kbps, and your target noise margin to be set to 9dB which will prevent you getting more than 7616kbps for a long time even if you got interleaving turned off again. And 7616 gives you a 6.5Mbps profile.

No, no I''l leave it alone now, the only reason I was going to play with it over the weekend was because you seemed to be suggesting it. :-)

I'm very happy with the speed as it is- it seems substantially faster than it actually was prior to all these problems.

The only thing that worries me about your post is that as a result of trying different things over the past couple of weeks, I'm fairly sure I have ended up disconnect/reconnecting more than 5 or 6 times in an hour - I assume that interleaving must be off though in order for it to be able to sync at 8128 at any point at all though so presumably it's ok? As I say I'm happy with the speed anyway but the reason I ask is in case it affects ping times for gaming etc?

Hmmm:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5856 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 18.5 db
Noise Margin 6.3 db 22.0 db

Can't really complain as it still feels ridiculously fast compared with what I've had to put up with until now but the suggestions both from here and from plusnet seemed to be that it would stay around 7meg unless I've missed something?

It was like this when I got in tonight and I then tried exactly 1 resync to see if it got any better but it looks like it's staying there now.

I might try one more at the weekend but it if it stays like this I don't really mind, it's just it actually seemed to sticking with 7-8M last night and this morning.

As you say - Hmmmm!

The speed difference day to night should be far less than that and I wouldn't have expected it to re-sync during the day.

If that sort of thing is happening it would useful to note the noise margin as well as the sync and time immediately after a sync, and if the connection speed has changed then do the same immediately before the re-sync as well as after.

The behaviour of the noise margin may give a faint clue.

Just as a thought, do you have central heating switching on late afternoon?

Very strange - the heating is on a timer but I'm now back to higher speeds and it's been on again twice since then.
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8064 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 18.5 db
Noise Margin 6.9 db 21.0 db

I'm leaving routerstats running on my machine to keep an eye on it so I should know the exact times and details should it happen again.
