How's iPlayer on Unlimted?

[link to this post]

I find the current cause of our peak time usage increase is due to the BBC iPlayer, with increasing quality it rapidly eats into our peak time allowance which means I need to consider other options now.

I'm wondering if anyone on the new unlimited package can comment on whether it's suitable for watching the iPlayer in high quality during peak times. Ideally they'd be able to handle the new HD programs as well.

Also general feedback on the unlimited package in general too, as it comes from an ISP which has told us an unlimited package is an unrealistic dream, I am a bit sceptical.

Thanks

Yes it is suitable and assuming your line can support the speed, you shouldn't have problems with the HD streams either.

It's worth you reading about how the product is traffic managed if you haven't done so already.

Don't be daft! No unlimited ISP allows HD streaming on its network! Plusnet shap to hell and are proud of it.

Rubbish - iPlayer streaming, HD or otherwise, is classed as 0x80 as has been seen on many wireshark captures which means it is classed as gold traffic and is effectively unthrottled

and is effectively unthrottled

But it is throttled just a little bit then?

laugh laugh
The only parts which have higher priority on the network at present are the Titanium Group which is time critical traffic: e.g. VoIP and gaming

As a current customer IPlayer runs smoothly on any setting. We live quite far from the exchange. I have not experienced any problems with it.
