Speed too low for the IP & sync ???

Hi All

Right I have sync'ed at 2752 for approx 48 hours but my speed has been so (relatively) slooow. Prior to that it had been at 2336

I have done the BT Speedtester and got this result just now which is the same as when I first sync'ed at the 2752

IP Profile 2000
Speed 1073

Surely the measured speed is way too loe for the IP Profile let alone the sync speed???

I wonder with James now gone if Mand or one of the others can give me a view of this, to me, discrepancy?

Many thanks for the link. It is still a great mystery to me that when I went MaxDSL and then up until I think was something over 18 months ago I had a connection on this line sync'ed regularly in the 3300 mark and measured speeds to suit at an SNR of 6db, never been the same since that time and PlusNet tried everything.....the BT engineer even said his tests showed I should get 4000.....new router, filters, ADSL Nation plat, Iplate now......!!!! BT just do not b****y care about CS.

However back to the point, yes what about my speed compared to the IP profile ~ mismatch surely as a while back at sync 2336' ish I was getting speeds of at least 1800.

The one thing that was never done during all that angst period AFAIK was to switch my connection at the DSLAM to another card ~ I did suggest it as an elimination test but apparentlysuch empirical tests are not considered necessary???

As I said, the increase in sync will make no difference. Sync is also irrelevant to download speed except in the short period that it can be below profile when you get a slow sync and before the profile drops.

You may have had a lower sync earlier which set you profile even lower than 2Mbps. There is a possibility on Plusnet that their copy of your profile is still at that lower value even though BT says it is 2Mbps. The update of the copy is known to fail occasionally.

So worth asking support, as the lower of the BT and Plusnet versions will be the effective limit.

Yes, I will have to raise a ticket if the speed has not picked up by Monday. Though Mand & team spot this please say???

Don't forget that it can take 5 days (120 hours) for one step changes to occur in the IP profile

Takes even longer if one isn't justified by the sync .

Got back this evening, was using the connection until about 2pm at the figures stated and now find that though the router log shows no sign of discon/recon i.e. up to time still counting 75hours & upwards.

I now have a sync of 2048 and SNR of 16db

I think I was on Gateway pte-ag1 but now I see I am on pcl-ag04. Now is this PlusNet doing load balancing that then "drops" one to a lower sync Gateway ~ really p****g me off thsi whole thing is!!!!

Download RouterStats Lite from the link on my website and see if you router is in the dropdown list.

Then set "log to file" on as well as the graphing.

See if it is your noise margin going all over the place.
