Connection Drop out

[link to this post]

My connection dropped out a little while ago with the speed dropping to 576 from 5024. The downstream noise marging jumped to nearly 19db.

It seems to be slowly coming back to normal but what could have caused this massive spike in noise?

Could someone check my line?

Your connection speed will not change until you do a disconnection/reconnection, and the noise margin should also reset when you do that.

I did that but it only came back at 700 and noise margin was still the same.

Will check it later

Have you checked to see if there is noise on the line when you use the telephone?

Hi Conor,

It looks like there were a few disconnections yesterday and today that may well have been the cause, I realise there was an intermittent fault closed on your account a couple of weeks ago. If it's come back I'd recommend testing from the master socket just in case it's something internal but if there's no change then raise us a fault and I'll get it reported back as a repeat fault for you.

Hi

Sorry for the late response. Just got back from Canada.

There was an issue with internal wiring as well which we have had to address. BT have replaced the existing socket with a proper faceplate (at our expense). There was a cable running under the carpet that was broken and this was shorting.

The connection details are looking better.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6912 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.0 db 28.0 db
Noise Margin 8.5 db 24.0 db

However, I have just done a speedtest and am getting pretty much the same download speed as previously.

Any ideas?

It is probably a low IP Profile - the BT Speedtester will give that
or if the IP Profile is OK what does this say https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer... for current line speed

The Plusnet profile hasn't caught up yet - I believe that at present it is only reset once per day
