What people commonly refer to as an ADSL router is usually a modem, router and wireless access point combined in the same box - the TG582 is such a beast. On fibre the router and WAP parts only are being used.
The OP made it clear that he was talking about fibre so your comment about the ADSL sync which relates to the modem component is totally irrelevant.
