Free evenings and weekends

[link to this post]

I'm sure I've got this legacy landline package, but can't remember whether it was subject to a limit of 1 hr per call, like the old BT equivalent used to be (nothing to stop you re-dialling immediately), or whether you can talk as long as you like uninterrupted. Only matters because I'm likely to have a "phone night" (i.e. more than 1 hour) with someone I can't meet due to coronavirus.

AFAIK the 1 hour limit applies to all the call plans. I believe the start time of the evening was changed some time ago from 6pm to 7pm.

Details of the legacy plan are given on PlusNet site as :-

This call plan was withdrawn from sale to new customers on 1st September 2016. Existing customers on this plan can continue to benefit from its features, or upgrade to one of our current call plans.

These details also apply to our Plusnet Evenings & Weekends and Talk Evenings & Weekends call plans.
Call type Charges
UK landline

Inclusive during evenings and at weekends
Standard rates at all other times

UK mobile and 070 personal numbering services

100 inclusive minutes available for £3 per month (for packages taken on or after 8th May 2013)
All other calls charged at standard rate

Non-geographical numbers (0845 and 0870) Inclusive during evenings and at weekends Calling cards, indirect access and dial-up Internet numbers are excluded. A fair usage limit of 150 calls or 1000 minutes (whichever is reached first) applies.

Ta. It doesn't really matter - I'll just have to remember to set a timer to hang up and dial again. I knew the free evenings started later.

I lost my wife nearly 5 years ago now. I'd gladly go back to the days of blazing rows after she'd been on the phone to her sister for 1 hour and 10 minutes!

Oh, sorry to hear that - but all couples row about something.

It IS a rather annoying/petty restriction, and easy to fall foul of, with one hour being OK, but one hour one minute not.

I suspect that's exactly the intention - that people will get carried away with their "free" hour, and go slightly over. There's no other reason for it, given that there's nothing to stop you ringing off after 59 minutes, and re-dialling for another lot.

Hi,

My 2 cents worth....Can you not call from your mobile if you have unlimited minutes on your calling plan?

I don't have a calling plan, let alone unlimited minutes on it. I have PAYG, and top about £20 a year. As you can tell, I am a very low mobile user. Any kind of monthly plan would be well in excess of my needs.

Periodically, I get someone trying to sell me a mobile deal. It's usually quite amusing, as it goes something like this:

"We guarantee we can save you money on your mobile bill!"

"You can't."

"OK, how much do you spend in an average month now?"

"Nothing,"

"Oh. We can't."

Actually, they could save you money, by paying you to have a contract. Perhaps next time you could try steering the discussion in that direction "if you can guarantee my outgoings will be two pounds less than they are now I'll sign up".
