New Router

[link to this post]

Are Sky having issues dispatching routers at the moment? I had a new one requested on the 10th April, and in MySky it's still showing as "We are processing your order"

Doesn't it usually show the date it was sent once its left the warehouse....

Yes they are.

Best thing to do is go on their forums and mention your plight, and it should get sorted pretty quick, mine was.

Probably still not receive it until after my line is activated, but at least I know it's finally en-route.

Not yet, was sent according to Royal Mail the same day as Klasnic's, but I'm sure I read it takes 3-5 days so it'll probably arrive after activation. Order a 3G dongle just in case off Amazon (Friday morning) and that hasn't shipped either, and I can't cancel it now. No doubt they'll all arrive at the same time! D'oh!

Re: New Router

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

Ive just got my PM off them

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your patience, I've contacted our dispatch team and they have advised that the router was dispatched today by Royal Mail Recorded Delivery.

The tracking reference number is FCXXXXXXXXXXX

You will be able to track this online through the Royal Mail website however please allow up to 24 hours for the tracking number to work as it will need to be scanned by Royal Mail into their network. The router should be with you hopefully within the next 3-5 working days.

Regarding your broadband, I'll keep an eye on this for you and as soon as you receive your router a credit will be applied to the account to cover the days from when the service goes active to when the router arrives.

Please accept our apologies for the delay.

Robert.

although im at least happy that its finally been sent im a little pd off that it will take 3-5 days isent royal mail recorded meant to be next day

That's the same message I got but it's still saying on the RM website
"The sender has advised us that item FC********GB will be posted into the Royal Mail network on the 2011-04-15."
It doesn't seem to me that RM have scanned anything.
Think a another call to Sky is needed will do it when I get home.

Yes mine as gone active today as well. Ive plugged my belkin N1 into it just to get my stats but obviously i cant use the internet because no user name/password.

Downstream Upstream
Data Rate(Kbps)
4096 512
Noise margin (dB)
22.7 13.0
Output power (dBm)
17.2 1.3
Attenuation (dB)
35.0 21.0

I thought my Attenuation would be a little lower that that but ill be happy once it sorts it speeds out should get 11-12 out of that.

Considering how late I receive post, no reason for them not to get processed and delivered to me today.

Oo very good i just checked mine and got.

arrived at Yorkshire Distribution Centre on the 2011-04-19 and we are currently processing it.

I think the Yorkshire one is either the one that comes direct to me or 1 stop off from me so maybe mine will also come today or tomorrow laugh

Oddly enough though i plugged my belkin N1 in and and my friend had left his sky username and password in. But its authorised me onto the sky network and hasn't kicked him off or anything haha i find it odd. But im not complaining because at least it stops me having to use Mobile Broadband laugh.

I have a [censored] line, long way from the exchange. The Sagem bumps me from 63 to 69!

Tried switching it over this morning, but was in too much of a rush and it didn't work. I'll retry it over the weekend.

The Sagem is much smaller than my Draytek which makes it easier to hide, but I love all the features of my Draytek.

Just as a side note... I too went 'live' this week (Monday) and was supplied with the D-Link (wireless 'g') modem router and used a little utility to extract the username/password from it and then used them with my own Netgear DGN3500 (wireless 'n') modem router.

Things seem to be working ok and my line is slowly creeping up in speed (think I'm on about 6 megs at the moment) after starting at the usual 4 megs at the start of the training period.

Hopefully all will work out for you guy's... like yourselves, I was sweating on getting my modem router from Sky (took 5 days from the time when they first posted it) in time for my activation date but happily mine arrived in time.... having said that, it got used for all of 3 minutes... just enough time to extract the username/password : - )

Assuming you're talking about db, a lot of routers won't report anything over 63db. It may be that your other router is one of them.

That's me at the moment was running at 4095/512 and the atten was 35.0/20.0 last night so its speed is working its way up although so it the atten lol. The noise has gone down loads since last night though is was at 22 lol so well see what happenes over the next few days. Hi ... thanks for the info.

Before getting activated, I couldn't make up my mind which would be the best option to follow... i.e use the supplied D-Link router supplied by Sky for the training period or not but the clincher for me was (besides the D-Link being only 'g' wireless and standard 10/100 LAN ports) that I was informed that if the D-Link had it's firmware updated (once I was activated), that the utilty to extract the username/password would most likley not work.

In the end, I connected up the D-Link and used the username/password extractor program right away and tried it in my Netgear DGN3500.

As soon as I'd established it was working, I thought I'd give it a try and see how it went, but, I was getting a bit jumpy as after two days, it did not appear like the 'training' period had not started (Sky portal page still not updated to show my line is in training mode!) but then yesterday morning I spotted that the download/upload speed had gone up so I realised that training had indeed started.

Again, this morning speeds have gone up (to just over 6 megs) so I'm going to leave the Netgear hooked up for the training period and see how it goes.

My SNR is set at about 8db at the moment... a bit high I guess but then again, it is the training period so hopefully it should settle back to about 6db?

My line attenuation is normally at about 37db (down) but that too is up a couple of pips at the moment and hovering around 39db

I was given a target download speed of about 4 megs from Sky when I signed up, but my best guess is that they 'artificially' make that a much lower figure than what might be expected (for a number of reasons) but I'm hoping to get at least as much speed from Sky LLU as I did from my previous ISP and that was averaging about 8 megs download.

Early days yet I know, but keeping my fingers crossed the training will keep pushing up my speeds : - )

I was activated on Tuesday but on Tuesday/Wednesday i used my Belkin N1 with my friends username and password. Naughty i no but it didn't seam to kick him off or affect him in any way so did it anyway lol. But i was told on here its always best to use skys router during the training period and then switch to your own router after the 10 days. I was sent one of the sagecom 2304 things that had a partial N thing (75meg max). I managed to get my username and password using the old way on www.cm9.net. so ill put my details into the belkin N1 after the 10 days period.

Ash

Edit Actualy the UN /PW i got off that site dont work in belkin after all lol.

Does any one know how to do it with the sagecoms?

Thanks again for the reply.

Yes, I read the same advice and agree it is the best, for the most part to use the provided modem/router from Sky but given all the reasons I mentioned in my other message(s), I decided to take a chance and use my own modem/router.

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't end up making a mess of things, but so far (fingers crossed), it does appear as though the training is going as I'd expected.

Best result for me would be to get at least the same download speeds that I was getting with my previous ISP (8 megs) and if it's any more, then I'll be a happy bunny : - )

Yea if its going fine then leave it on i cant seam to get my user/password off the sagecom haha so looks like for now im stuck with it.

Providing i get 10meg minimum i will be very happy (i no people in street 2 of wich on same pole as me get between 11.5-14).
The only thing is my attens a bit high one of the people on the same pole as me has an atten of 30 (they get 14meg) so i think this may slow me down a bit.
ive done everything i can do at my end to make sure to get the best out of my connection.

New line fitted pre-filtered faceplate no so well have to wait till line training is done and see what happens then if its under 10 meg ill get on the blower to sky lol.

Just left virgin for sky from 50meg that will be very missed lol so if i get 10 (the lowest vm offer) it will be worth it.

My friend switched to sky about a month ago he used to get 6 meg on o2 and now he gets 9 with sky so he was very happy too saved him some money and boosted him lol.

Hi...

All noted on the line attenuation. Thing is, as I'm sure you are aware, that many things can cause attenuation, even 'after dark' effects like street lighting etc.

For me, once I'd figured out that my extension cable going from my BT master socket to the one where I have my modem router was acting as an antenna and then snipping the bell wire pin at the master socket, things got much sweeter.... right away I got an extra 2 megs download speed and that was without even re-starting the modem/router at the time!

My normal attenuation (certainly while I was with my previous ISP) is about 37db and from the calculations I've seen, that might mean I get as much as 9 or even 10 megs download on Sky LLU ... all things being equal of course but again, there are so many factors to take into consideration so guess I'll have to wait until the end of the 10 day training period and see just what speeds I get ; - )

yea well i dont have any extension exept a sky one but there's no bell wire in that and its fitted behind the filtered faceplate so it wont interfere with the broadband. And also i think when they fitted my phone line 2 week ago they didn't put the bell wire in there either.

I had to have full new line as we had one from pole to house at as soon as cable hit the house it stoped it was pulled out about 16 year ago lol.

As you say a lot of things can affect and it may go down after training.

Had to switch mine over this morning, half my kit doesn't seem to like the Sagem and won't interact with it.

I just used the cm9 website, ok it's a different Sagem model, but it still works.

when i put my detail's in using the Sagecom bit on the site it generated a password that was about 40 characters long with a / in the middle and when i put this into my other router i just got a ultra flashing orange light and wouldn't authorise lol were as my m8s password is only about 8 characters long any ideas ?

EDIT

Never mind i feel such a wally i was putting the last digit of my mac code in wrong lol.
The end was EC and i was putting EE.

line tested started in my account last night and my atthens gone up again to 39 crazy im not happy about that. Im sure there putting it up on purpose just to match there speed estimate on website they dont like it when u tell them you know you can get faster.

Well that Sagem is a bit of a disaster losing internet connection, losing wireless its in the bin ive connected up the netgear.Tried the user/pass i extracted but wouldnt connect like you i ended up with a password *****/*****.
Dunno if it was because i was doing it wireless or not.
I just used the the working user/pass that i had from the netgear router.
Bit of a shambles really lol had to switch the sagem router on/off around 4-5 times just to get internet access so god knows what thats done for my profile im back to 4.25mb.Pointless getting another sky router as they will just send out the same duff model.

I was putting the wrong MAC address in lol so it was generating the wrong user/password. I was putting my ADSL Port MAC Address in to start with i found out youve got to put the LAN Port MAC Address in lol. Im having to use the sagecom one at the moment because sky have messed my line profiles up so im in talks with them over the phone to get it sorted out. Ive goto ring back tomorrow for them to sort my SNR and stuff out although my atten should allow 10meg its not budging past 7 and the support lady was stumped so as to why but there limited on staff with thr bank holiday. Sooooo shal try again tomorrow and see if we can get any farer lol.

If my speed doesnt increase by tomorrow i will be forced to phone them too otherwise i will stuck on this 4mb connection.Get them to start training again.Probably be sent another router so think i will connect it and disable wireless and then use my netgear for wireless as the sagem is useless.

just ring them and ask them to force you onto a higher profile DLM is useless anyway if you posts you router stats ill see what speeds your capable of then you can tell them the corresponding profile you want forcing onto.
