lol backtracking and trying to recover me thinks - I will try use my 3 com 3CRWDR100A-72 and see how it goes ,as I have found it to be a solid router

When mine switched over from nildram to sky today, my old DG834G could only manage 10Mbps with 6dB noise margin, whereas the DG834GT manages 15Mbps with 14-17 dB margin, so there can be a huge difference in changing router

If yours isn't great, perhaps take advantage of a shops money back guarantee, eg Argos?

why don't we let Sky's Terms and Conditions make up my mind huh:

"(d) Sky Broadband must only be accessed via your Broadband Box."

It's your choice - but if you're encouraging others to use other equipment you are encouraging them to break the T&Cs they have entered into.

Why not just admit you were wrong and salvage some dignity? Other routers do work, but to use them breaks the terms and conditions of the service.

It really doesn't affect sky in any negative way to choose a better router for your needs, and if it gives people a better connection/better lan and or wireless lan ,then its definately a good idea to change your router if you feel confident in what you are doing.

I think the term "your broadband box" might be just a little bit too wide-ranging to stand up in court! I have lots of broadband boxes!

I'm not encouraging people to do anything,I asked a simple question that was all.Whatever people want to do it's up to them.

Your not even with Sky so why you keep replying to this thread is beyond me.We all know Sky's Terms and Conditions so there is no need for you to keep telling us.

Why are people so worried about breaking the T&C's by using their own routers? If you download copyrighted material via bittorrent or newsgroups you're in a far worse breach of the T&C's than using your own router.

will a speedtouch 510v4 work or does it have to be a adsl2 router?

I'd have thought it would have depended on how sky have configured their DSLAM's, as it should be backwards compatible, but they may have decided to prevent ADSL1 modems being used. I'd try for you but both of my routers offer ADSL2.
