The router issue

I just tried the link provided by Zub which appears in at least 2 threads here: "Alternative routers" and "Different router" and it brought up an "Authentication Required" box, asking for your username and password.

All I did was click on the link and that's what came up. Pardon my lack of knowledge here but I take it that you use this method with the router supplied by Sky and having extracted the user name and password that would enable you to set up your own router to go online.

I do have a reason for wanting to use my old router - I want to use my laptop with the wireless card from my old router, so any suggestion as to how I might achieve this would be welcome. I should state that my laptop is running Win98SE and I don't really want to muck about trying to upgrade it - even if I could.

Just use admin and sky as username and password for the router config

Doh! I knew I'd missed something. Thanks for that I'll give it another go.

Managed to bring a page up this time with a load of settings but could not access the next link to get my username and password. However I am sorted for now. Have got my win98se laptop up and running on the wireless connection so will go with the Sky kit, for now.

hey Zub here. Yes you have to actually first login to the router setup screen then follow the process. once your logged in, try copying and pasting the address line into your browser instead of just clicking on it. it may work this way. but really it should work anyway, just hope sky hav'nt patched up all new routers going out now

Now happy to report that everything as described in the previous post by Zub has worked for me and I now have the username & password via that route. Ta very much.
