Any positive Sky Stories?

[link to this post]

As a sky TV subscriber I was considering switching from Orange (whom Id had a few problems with) to Sky as Id save 8 a month for a quicker line and unlimited download limit. But reading these pages Ive seen loads of horror stories but wonder if there are any positive stories about switching to counter this. After all people always complain (and rightly so) but rarely praise.

Are there any Sky bb users out there who didnt have problems switching?

Yes there are people who switched without any problems. skyuser.co.uk will prove that in the sky happiness section. It would appear that people are having problems getting connected but once set up the service seems fine.

Indeed.

Since being connected I haven't experienced a single problem. If you're willing to go through the headache of migration c*ck ups then go for it.

Yes, great service and I get 7Mb on Mid - admittedly I am only 100 metres from the exchange but went active as forecasted with no issues - even the email works

I think we have to remember that Sky have just under 250'000 broadband customers so there will be a lot of issues, but the bigger seems to be quite rosy - their customer service needs improving but hopefully that will come with time.

Not connected yet, but so far no problems.

Signed up online for migration, order showing on BT tracker after 2 days and router received this morning, migration due Thursday.

A confusing letter that could have been worded better, and I emailed them before my router was despatched (but it could have already been on it's way) the only very slight glitches.

Will let you know more on Thursday.

I hope I get connected okay. First hurdle is getting UK Online off my line. Not sure if a cease for an LLU connection will appear on the BT order tracker, but I called UK Online to pur through a cease yesterday. My direct debit's been cancelled, but my connection is still going... ready with the analogue modem

Thanks for that. It'd be interesting if you could keep us updated. The positive stories are making me more confident in the idea of switching.

I think the most confusing part of Sky BB is this issuing of a password via the mail - as we all know your BB password and username are hardcoded in but it seems a little odd to send a password through which applies to your Sky portal for emails etc; that certainly should be explained better!

Also, for those of you that arent aware, you dont need to use the CD provided just plug it in and bob should be your uncle you wont get a years free McAfee but some would say thats a good thing!!!!

That is what I found confusing - there wasn't even a password on my letter for the portal (or even the web address so I guessed that one ) and is was because I had used my SKy.com profile - no problem with that, but why not tell me.

Like I said, small issues really.

oh! and the router was sent on the 26th, before I emailed them about it. Nice to get it in advance - I already use a Netgear for several home PCs so I have reconfigured it in advance with my current SSID/WPA key so on the day I just plug it in and all the PCs will recognise it

Have you visited www.skyuser.co.uk yet? It's a great companion site to use in conjunction with TB and many of the members visit both....
