Good Practice

I leave my sky router switched on all the time and I just wondered whether or not I need to switch it off at all? Also, when people talk about rebooting or syncing the router what do they mean?

I leave mine physically switched on all the time.

Rebooting the router means restarting it from scratch (ie pull the power lead out and plug it back in, flick the switch off/on etc) Resync means to renegotiate your connection with the exchange. This occassionally happens to me - the SNR margin gets so low the connection to the exchange drops and the router automagically reconnects.

Ok, how do I re-sync with the exchange?

I don't think you need to reboot your router at all if you are not having issues; are you on Connect or one of the LLU products?

Easiest way is just to reboot (power cycle) the router.

There may be ways within your routers web or command line interface to do it too.

I'm on the Max package. The main problem I'm having is with the transfer rate. Before I installed the optimiser I was only getting 70 Kb/s.. now I'm getting nearer 400 but I still think thats too slow for 16MB

If you log into the router via http://192.168.0.1 using admin and sky and then post your line stats, some knowledgeable person will be able to advise you on your potential line speeds.

Hi can i just ask what optimiser you are talking about and where can i get it.

What is the optimiser you are using ?

Just a guess, but it might be this Optimizer! Its a good bit of kit. Hope this helps
