General query

Ello, I have a few questions as I'll be getting my MAC from Nildram in a few days (after over 8 years )

I seem to be finding contradictory information about the service and setup. Can anyone answer the following for me?

Is migration free from a currently active DSL line?
Is the service any good?
Do you HAVE to have Sky to get this? (We do have Sky, but in my mums name, and the phone line is a second line in my name as the main phone line is borked)

I've spoken to a couple of people I know, and they say that they had to pay to transfer from Nildram to Sky, but why is this when other ISPs allow you to switch to the new provider free of charge? Also, is there any price difference if you don't want the Sky modem?

Oh, I nearly forgot the MAIN questions:

Is it GOOD for gaming. Not OKAY, but GOOD. I'm talking low stable pings, especially to FPS UK based gaming servers. I currently get 20-30 pings on most servers and my connection is stable, as is my phone line.

What are the download speeds you receive, compared to your last provider? I can't see this being any better for me, but obviously I don't want them to be any worse. I've got a very fast upload (slightly better than it should be actually) and my downloads are always over 6.5mb.

Is the service any good? Internet seems to be very good, support is hit and miss (more miss)

Gaming pings are usually high for most people. There may be things you can get sky to do to lower these a bit but you will have to run the gauntlet of sky support.

From a decent site I generally max the connection.

So far as pings go you can ask for your "max delay" to be reduced.

You get an 8 day cooling off period so you could always try it and see.

So far as the connection itself goes, my experience has been very positive. Not needed customer services so far but the one time I did ring them before signing up I was less than impressed. Having said that I do not think they are any worse than any of the other big boy ISP foreign call centres.

Could be, but BT do charge Sky to connect to their LLU service.

Sky aren't on my exchange via LLU. I was talking about a normal line, not LLU. If it's LLU only then it's off the list straight away. Although if gaming pings are high then there's no point even considering them.

Ah, actually their site says minimum 12 month contract. No way in hell am I signing anything with a 12 month contract.
