Sky problems

[link to this post]

I recently moved into a new flat which has expired sky broadband and sky talk packages on the line. I asked bt to take over the line but they said it will cost 125 as they will need to install a new line. The reason given was that their system shows the phone number which was registered to the previous tenant is now registered to a different address, but when i dial it the landline in my flat rings! Surely its possible to get sky removed so another provider can use the line without me paying 125?

BT are yanking your chain. I had a similar experience with my daughter's line when she moved into a house for uni.

Sky isn't full LLU and the line was still BT's line - even when Sky was on it, so it is just a plain reconnect for zero cost.

As mentioned above - BT tried that scam with me trying to charge 125 for a new line. I got around it by ringing back BT and saying I wanted BT broadband and then asked them to check my line would be reconnected for nothing as there was already a phone socket in the house. When they confirmed it would get reconnected for nothing I told them to do it and once it was reconnected I would ring back to order their broadband.

Needless to say I didn't order BT broadband in that house.
