Unlimited?

I'm not an idiot, I know unlimited doesn't mean what you would hope with most ISP's. I've gone through a few ISP's in my time, and am currently with Namesco.

However, basically down to cost, I have started to consider taking my broadband from Sky, as it will only cost �10 for their unlimited package.

However, I'd like some current users to let me know what Sky means by unlimited. Am I going to get cut off if I'm a heavy users, dropped onto a heavy user only pipe maybe (I think that's what namesco did to me..)?

Do Sky traffic shape/block ports?

The wireless router they provide, is there a model name/number? Is it good or should I get myself a better one (I need to change my router as it has become flakey..).

Any information greatly appreciated.

Sky FUP on their Max product is reported to be 250gig. I've never heard of anyone being sent a warning letter or having their line throttled or any other kind of limitation being imposed.

I have the old Netgear router but you will get the V2 Netgear or Sagem router which can both be hacked to get the password to allow you to use another modem. Be aware that it is against T&C's to use anything other than the provided router. I hear that this is because it makes problems easier to solve when people call up.

One last note, I was downloading 80gig a month for 6 months while on their 'Base' product which is far far more than I was allowed. I thing my allowance was 2 gig but not sure. Never heard a thing.

It should be stressed that this is only an assumed figure, because people have routinely used that much and gotten away with it You won't find it on any official Sky site. Like all other limits, they are subject to review, so you shouldn't assume that they won't change in the future, or if someone local makes a complaint about slow speeds.

You won't get Sky Max if your exchange is not unbundled. All they will offer you is Sky connect, which has a much lower limit for downloads, because it's simply a BT product being re-sold by Sky.

No expert, but you will only be able to get connect i understand. Better to go elsewhere unless they indicate that the exchange is due to be LLU'd. If so, then I understand that you will get 'connect' for �5.

That's what I get for not reading enough. Back the the drawing board I think. I just feel a bit ripped off paying �25/month for subpar service from Names. I'm thinking that if I'm going to put up with [censored] service, I should at least not be paying a premium for it..
