About right for a 51dB attenuation. You might be able to scrape a bit more by tidying up internal phone wiring - search the forums for removing ring wires.

Apologies for being a numpty... But I signed up for the MAX service (16Mb Unlimited) and am only getting 8Mb. Is this due to my line?

Thanks for the prompt response.

Is this something they have done wrong? How do I get it corrected?
I have checked and supposedly Sky MAX /Easynet LLU is available at my exchange.
Presumably a phone call would put this right?

Your downstream noise margin at 8160kbps is 7dB, which is the target noise margin for the router, so Sky will be reluctant to put you on ADSL2+, because you won't gain much extra speed, and your connection might not be as stable.

Having said that, your attenuation is only 37dB, and you should be able to do better. If you have one of the new style phone sockets with a removable faceplate, remove the faceplate, and plug your ADSL router directly into the socket which is revealed when you remove the plate (take care, the plate may have wires connected to it). If your line sync and noise margin improve (get higher) when you do this, you may be able to achieve a higher speed by tidying up your extension wiring (ask how to do this if necesssary).

ok,my line attenuation was 47dbdown and snr was 6db .i,m on the max service. i got about 5 to 6mb downloadspeed and 768 upload speed. using mognuts utility i dropped the snr down to 3db and my attenuation actualy dropped to 15.5db.i tried this a few times to make sure it wasnt a flook.i.m 1.9km from exchange.using andrew fergusons adsl +2 line checker on the 15.5 reading i should be able to get 19999kbps. question ,
why did my attenuation drop like that, and shouldnt sky have put me on adsl2 anyway on the max service.ive been with sky a year.any thoughts or answers appreciated.

Your attenuation hasn't actually dropped, there's a known bug in the Netgear dg834gt (Sky's white router) that sometimes causes it to misreport downstream attenuation as 15.5db. A few other makes of router using the same chipset including a Belkin model exhibit the same bug.

I have been given www.dslzoneuk.net to check my ADSL2+ possible speeds. not sure if it is going to be useful as not tried it yet, will post my results.
