email attachment issues?

[link to this post]

Is anyone who's using skys outgoing SMTP server getting issues with attachments?

Any mail my uncle now sends with attachments is being received as garbage text and some stuff about mime ascii format or what not. It was fine 2 days ago.

Been tearing my hair out thinking it was outlook settings, however have double checked everything. Just noticed that others are having same issue : http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-email-portal-log/27130-sky-smtp-sending-attachments-encoded-ascii-only.html

This happened to a friend of mine, looks like the Google servers are removing the content-transfer-encoding line in the header, so the receiving email program cannot correctly identify its a MIME formatted message and decode the sections.

So any quoted printable, or HTML sections are unreadable, and attachments are useless.

The fix is to use a non Sky SMTP server, such as one from a webhost, or www.authsmtp.com, or even the one SkyUser talks about.

Strange bug.
