Sky Router Wi Fi Connectivity

[link to this post]

Recently migrated to Sky. Had read some poor reports here about their supplied router, but having used the Netgear router supplied have found it to be excellent.

I replaced a Netgear GT (with an aerial) with the Sky version (black without an aerial) and the Wi-Fi connectivity has improved considerably, really sharp and crisp.

It would appear to me that Netgear have improved things greatly as my signal between router and laptop etc has increased by around 10 to 15%. And all done without an aerial!

How can this happen?

I do realise that the aerial must be enclosed which was my point! The main thrust of the post was, why am I getting improved connectivity with a router that has received bad publicity?

My 'old' (not so old) router has an appendage and the 'poorly rated' Sky supplied router without an appendage was providing a superior performance. So, simply, why have an appendage in the first place?

After all said and done the provided router is excellent and is providing excellent connectivity to my three household laptops with or without an exterior aerial!

Hi,

I am new to Sky Broadband and didn't expect much from the router but how wrong could I be.

Compared to my old Belkin router with two aerials is has:-

a) Much better wi-fi range
b)Runs a good deal cooler
c)uPNP works

I was convinced that I would have to find the username and password and change the router but can't fault it in any way. I have the Black Netgear DG934

Yes, as stated in my original post, the router works like a dream and so easy to set up. The number of contributors here that have rubbished the router mystifies me.

So, hats off to Sky for providing a decent piece of kit.

Monaltrie & scotch-whisky, I too have the Netgear 934 Sky router and have found it to be totally reliable in use. It seems less affected by interference - particularly the microwave - than the Belkin I was using on Entanet (UKFSN) and it holds connection very well even when the noise margin is down to zero in the evenings.

In fact I am very pleased with Sky BB altogether, some complain about their customer services - I can't comment on that, I've never had to use them. That in itself is a recommendation, no?

I might be wrong but I think the main reason why some rubbish the Sky routers is that Sky have put their own firmware on them which thwarts those who like to tweak and adjust settings. You can see Sky's logic, though; uniform settings = standard script for CS troubleshooting.

Happy New Year to All!

I've been using NETGEAR's since the DG834Gv1 model and once the original firmware was sorted (very buggy) they have been rock solid.
