Re: File Downloads from TBB

Sadly not much interest from SKY on fixing it. I removed everything from my network so pings to router were uninterrupted by any other network traffic, still packet loss occurred.

Same result on a laptop connected directly to router with a LAN cable. I couldn't setup a direct connection to the ONT via cable tried anything@skydsl|anything but don't work. on the ASUS I had to pick dhcp 61 but no option when setting up new network on laptop.

I setup a BQM on my brother's line who is also on Sky and 2 doors down on the same pole, his BQM is showing packet loss.

I had a call from the priority team, he had no clue what packet loss was and promised to liaise with network team, he ran speed checks which came back low, escalated it again and 2 hours later got SMS to say resolved, issues still there☹️☹️

How about doing a BQM for some neighbours on different Openreach providers (but on the same CBTs)? this may then re-enforce the opinion that its an Openreach PON issue.

I think there is only two other connections, They live further away and to be honest, don't know them will enough to ask.

Can a faulty CBT cause this issue?

You either have a faulty PON or there's an issue on the switch that the backhaul provider is connected to the OLT with.

I guess the other potential is that someone is maxing their service out 24x7 and degrading it for everyone, but that would be something Sky need to take up with Openreach. If Sky aren't interested then keep escalating complaints, maybe post on their forums rather than using tech support as the staff on there seem to be more helpful.

I had a OR engineer out, he did the obligatory light test and passed.

His line test was reporting the line speed as 550 / 75 iirc.

I had laptop with GB Lan port set up.

Showed him the TBB GB file download that was showing over 50 minutes to complete, left it running and in 2 minutes didn't change. Stopped the download.

Then did speed tests on Ookla and same server went 470, refreshed page and down to 12.

He wanted to try Fast.com, that was 17 first then 230.

All tests ran connected directly to the router, all other LAN cables pulled out, WiFi disabled.

Also showed him the packet loss.

He was flummoxed, called India all passed. Took pictures of the speed tests with variable speeds and will attach to notes.

He was going to get his mate at the exchange to look at the head unit, clean connections and also see if he could move me to a Nokia panel and call back.

Since he left, routers not rebooted and SMS from OR to say Engineer has completed work.

No idea if headend unit work was done.

Did speed test, looked promising, three on three on trot different servers were 400+, then went 10☹️☹️. Repeated in case just an anomaly but variable speeds.
