going from aol to talktalk?

[link to this post]

Hi there,

I'm currently on aol silver at 9.99 a mth 2 mbits download speed. At times like today sunday the speed is not good 0.2 mbits download, but should return to normal tomorrow. As talktalk is unbundled in my local exchange if I was to change to them what is the likelyhood that I would have less variations in speed i.e would stay more or less above the 1 mbit, or do you think it wouldn't make much difference?

thanks
Joe

The AOL LLU and TT LLU use the same backhaul, so performance is likely to be similar with slowdowns. If you are on BT ipStream with either service then it will use different backhaul on BT centrals AFAIK. I don't know which is the better.

I've just been switched from AOL BT IPSTREAM where everything was excellant. Since the 15th December 2008 they moved me to TALK/TALK LLU and I have had nothing but problems.

Speeds no greater than 2.2MB

Report a fault and my speeds improve then the next day we are back to 2.2, useless.

I have an excellant line within 100 metres of the telephone exchange and BT IPSTREAM was perfect, always getting my 8MB but now it's not worth paying for.

Got offered a cheaper price but I have to start a new contract, it p!sses me off. Tech support and managers have no idea what Interleaving is. So I have given up and migrating to o2 Non LLU

Have you registered at www.talktalkmembers.com/forums and reported the problem there? If you post your line stats there, I'm sure it'll be fixed in no time - it may be that you have got stuck on a 2Meg profile (hard to say for sure without you posting your stats here), which can be changed pretty much instantly. You can also ask to be moved from an interleaved to a fast profile at the same time.

Yes, the TalkTalk forum is very useful. I'd give it a shot before migrating. The support there is A1.

Yes, i think it will, although im not 100%. We have had AOL Customers join the TalkTalk forum needing support. There is only one way to find out, give it a go

To be fair, you might as well migrate to TalkTalk, i suspect it will be cheaper

I need an account number to signup via the forums.

I have used my MAC and i'm off. If there technical support deparment inc. managers have no idea what interleaving is then I fel that this is a good call to leave on it's own. Ive spoke to 5 different people and neither knew what it was. Speed still seems very poor and I have had this problem since the 15th December 2008 and still I am no further forward. In fact, the situation has got worse not better.

I would like to thank those who assisted me and have a happy new year 09'

Have you checked your MTU and Rwin settings. Changed these settings on my brothers computer. His router said his bandwith is 7393 down and 473 up, but he was only getting a download speed of 700. Used TCPoptimiser to check and change his settings, and his speed went from 700 upto 5400. Its remained around this speed for the last week.

He is on talktalk and LLU
