ADSL2+ guaranteed?

[link to this post]

Currently I'm on Be, unbundled, and getting 7.4Mbps out a line that BT used to deliver 4Mbps on when I used Plusnet.
Talk Talk's current offer looks like a good opportunity to eliminate BT, with their expensive call plan, from our household.
So.. I filled in the web page at Talk Talk, and today someone phoned me about it. I advised him of my current unbundled status, and that Talk Talk is also present as an LLU on our exchange. However I am slightly dubious about the verbal offer, even though there is a free evaluation month.
Are you guaranteed to use their exchange kit where they are unbundled? Or do they only offer ADSL2+ where you pay their extra sub? Clearly what I don't want to do is move and then find I just end up with an openstream link via BT which would mean back to 4Mbps...

Yes, you will use TalkTalk's equipment providing your exchange has been LLU'ed - which you say it has. Their equipment is ADSL2+ enabled supporting up to 24Mb speeds.

So, in short will will be put on ADSL2+ equipment. However there may be a very small chance that you may not because the exchange is reaching its capacity and TalkTalk need to expand their equipment, which is highly unlikely. If you go to http://www.talktalkmembers.com/content/view/109/149/ you can type in your exchange to see the status of it.

If you join TalkTalk, i suggest you go to www.talktalkmembers.com and register to their forum, the support there is superb, especially if you want the maximum speed your line can handle etc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. My exchange is not listed as having any issues on that page, its status os just 'live'. So...Shall I take the plunge!! Only hassle, hopefully, is having to send my BE router back to them since they demand £100 if you don't...

I'd go for it. I love TalkTalk, great service and a great price. TalkTalk should send you a free wireless router as part of the package anyway.

Dont forget to sign up to www.talktalkmembers.com forum. The support there is top-notch, they have picked the best staff from the best to manage it.

Couldn't agree more with this posting. Only have had 1 problem since I've been with them. Got it sorted through the forum in no time.

The only issue would be if your telephone number was ever a cable phone number. If it ever was then the number is owned by Virgin and number portability problems occur with call termination. In that case you could not get free broadband; you would have to take BTw ADSL Max @ £15pm extra. If the TT website accepts you as a free broadband customer then you are safe.

No, no cable out in the leafy suburbs here!
I ordered today. They are claiming 5.4Mbps for me, which suggests they do realise that they will be using ADSL2+ on my line. That's lower than the 7.4Mbps I'm actually getting on this line from Be, but it's reasonable that they will err on the side of caution!

That speed is probably a very rough estimation and on the most stable profile. If you register to the forum - www.talktalkmembers.com - and ask for more speed, it can be done there.

You can't register there until your account is active but in any case I'll be using my own router and setting my profile myself...

Thats fine. But i mean the profile at TalkTalks end. They can raise and lower Target SNR Margins, switch you from Interleaved to Fastpath etc to give you best possible speed for your line
