Want to join TalkTalk LLU

[link to this post]

I had checking samknows and talktalk exchange checker as BTW and TT gave me a maximum speed of just 6.5Mb speed. However, I am currently with zen internet and got max speed of 7Mb.

How fast will talktalk give me the speed on up to 24Mb ? I think roughly around 13-14Mb.

Here is my router line detail on max up to 8Mb:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.0 db 14.0 db
Noise Margin 16.0 db 27.0 db

BT Speedtester

Download speedachieved during the test was - 7013 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps

Thanks but after discussing over the phone with TalkTalk, they say my line can't go more than 6.5Mb because of the cable route from exchange to my property is far too long lenth. I told them Why did I get 7Mb with max dsl with zen and they say ADSL2+ is different to ADSL. They say I won't getting of more than 7Mb if switch over to TalkTalk, as they checked talktalk speed check using my telephone number and post code and say it only do 6.5Mb.

That is what their checker reports.. but your attenuation says something more accurate and will allow around 12Mb on the line - maybe a little more.

More like 14.5 Meg, allowing for an attenuation increase to 31 dB on ADSL2+.

No LLU uses IP Profiles and should work with any generic (not locked to a particular ISP) Router.

I think your new ISP should handle all aspects of the migration. You might be advised to formally cancel your previous contracts and your DD after the migration has taken place.

When i switched from IDNet to TT they told me they would handle everything, I assumed I needed a MAC but I didn't and everything went smoothly, I did send my old ISP an email telling them the date I was going to be switched over but it was only for my peace of mind.

Most ISPs have notice periods for cancellation - the OP should check with Zen on the procedure. From their terms and conditions it looks like it is only 14 days though. I would certainly advise checking with your old ISP after the changeover to make sure they have cancelled your account. In my case, when I changed from Virgin to TT, I requested a MAC to start their 30 day notice period (otherwise I would have been paying Virgin for a full month after changing to TT), but also had to phone after the switch to get my account cancelled (it was still active despite me being on TT LLU).

You should not need to contact BT at all though - you will probably get an "are you sure" begging letter from them before the changeover smile. Just make sure you are not under contract with them still, obviously, otherwise you may face huge charges.

The order had been rejected by BT for some reason ? I think it because I was under contract with BT for 12 months and under 30 days contract with Zen. TalkTalk say my live date for January 24th cannot go ahead now unless I had to speak to BT direct myself over my unlimited anytime calls with line rental under British Telecom.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with Zen - AFAIK, BT 12 month contracts auto-renew, so you can only change provider at a specific point each year, otherwise you have to buy the remainder of your 12 month contract out. That's one reason I left BT.

and if you do nothing (dont open the letter for instance) then BT start a new 12 month contract?

I think you'll find that's the definition of auto-renew

agreed , and who is actually doing the misleading in this thread , it a 12month auto renewal and is the most dishonest and unethical type of contract being offered in the telecom market period !

Exactly! It was offered and you chose to take a renewable contract deal in order to get something for nothing, e.g. Unlimited UK Evening & Weekend calls at no extra cost rather than take a Standard Deal non-renewable contract. Your choice! It's called give & take!

BT do their best to make it as confusing/misleading as possible, but of course do make it very clear in the small print, which most people will not read. I'm going back a bit, but all this kind of thing started when BT changed their BT Together plan - people had been getting free evening and weekend calls for ages, and all of a sudden BT decided to pull the rug and withdraw the evening part unless you signed up for 12 month auto renewing contract or paid for the privilege - I liken that to blackmail. It was back then when it was even worse because people were not familiar with auto renewing contracts after so many years with BT without being tied to a contract. If BT are so good, they wouldn't need such silly contracts since people would stick with them on merit. I know TT have an initial 18 month contract which is almost as bad, but the key point is that you can leave whenever you want after the 18 months without penalty.

Gives you a chance to renegotiate your BT 12 month line rental contract though, if you call them up - I usually get a substantial extra discount on the free evening and weekend calls deal if I agree to renew smile

BT had renewal my 12 months contract last november 2010 without informed me 1st, I had no letter either. I give up and stay with BT until November 2011 and stay with my current isp Zen but Zen is expensive pricing but I had no choice, but Zen is very good, got speed of 7Mb all times. But, I would like my broadband, phone calls, line rental to be even cheaper and this is why I want to join talktalk as I believe talktalk can get my line speed of 14Meg. But, I saw alots of bad reviews of this talktalk, cheaper but rubbish service and very very poor customer support.

Good idea! Here is the relevant term for renewable contracts from BT's T&Cs:
At the end of each 12 month minimum period the contract will be automatically renewed for a further 12 month minimum period unless you tell us otherwise before the renewal date. We will write to you the month before the renewal date to remind you of this. You cannot downgrade during the minimum period or any renewable minimum period. If you decide to end your contract within the 12 month minimum period, you will incur a single charge of £5.50 for each month left of the minimum period.
But are you sure you were on a renewable contract and not just stuck mid-term in a non-renewable contract?

irrelevant of what the customer does, we can call the BT contract we are talking about a 12-month auto-renew as this states facts about the contract that even you agree with. To say someone is being misleading when they describe the contract as thus is just plain wrong of you, as they were entirely correct to call it this. You'll find the proof in your own copy/paste of the BT contract in your own later post.

My attenuation is 4.0db down 2.5db up and I typically get 17.7 Meg on TT's LLU service, syncing at almost 21 Meg. TT's estimated speed for my line is 18 Meg so I'm reasonably happy as it is stable and cheap.

I can't believe it, talktalk had sent me a free wireless router today as my order was cancel, and got welcome pack and saying they will taking my 1st payment this month. I had ring back told them I can't have talktalk because BT reject it. They say my order had accepted and will go live on 24th January. I say to them "I am sorry I cannot have talktalk, because I still under contract with BT" and talk talk say "don't worry about BT, we will pay off BT on your behalf"

Why is talktalk rejected then out of suddenly accepted ?

I had contact BT and everything is now sorted out as BT will ensure my service line rental will not transfer over to talktalk. I gave BT of talktalk cancel ref number and BT will investigated it with talktalk on my behalf this morning.

BT had called me back after 4pm and the order of talktalk is now cancel and my service will remain staying with BT.

I am going to sent the free wireless router with welcome pack back to talktalk with my recording delivery post.

I just had cancel talktalk direct debit at the bank today.

If you ask TT they will send you a free returns pack for the router, although they don't seem to get too worried about them.
