need help

[link to this post]

have recently joined TT broadband and I am having a problem with the E mail service using windows mail , which is the Vista equivalent of outlook express. Technical support tell me that TT broadband servers can't use windows mail and that I am going to have to use webmail. I find webmail slow and cumbersome. Are there any Vista users out there who have had this problem. Many thanks.

Have followed out the instructions from the web site recommended by talktalk boy without success. I did it three times with the same result. I tried sending myself an E mail and got the following error message. It asked me to ensure I had entered the correct servername, I had. No socket error:11001. Error number OX 800 CCCOD. I have again been onto technical support and they are quite addament that the TT server will not work with windows mail. It will with outlook express so there must be a slight difference between the two allthough everyone tells me they are the same!!. Vista do not use outlook express.I am still on my 30 day trial and unless this can be sorted I will move on as 'webmail' is not very good.. I have double chcked all my settings and everything appears to be in order. Help.

many thanks to everyone trying to help. I have just got off the phone to technical support and once again I went through the internet connect procedure. I then sent myself an E mail and so did technical support, guess where they ended up, yep, on webmail not windows mail.. I now have to call micrsoft to see if they have a proplem with their server!!! I am determined to get this sorted out somehow.

TT mail will function with any POP e-mail client. Have you tried Thunderbird?

http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/thunderbird/

Do you have a firewall or similar that is misbehaving? eg: Norton etc.

Whoever you spoke to at talktalk support is giving you incorrect information. Have youi tried changing your MTU setting to 1400, if this doesnt work try lowering your firewall or disableing it temporarily during testing to see if it is this causing an issue.

I can say 100% that windows mail does work with talktalk, theres no logical reason it would not.

Are you using AVG antivirus? Someone I know had to manually configure its email scanning interface to get it to work on Vista.

Also are you using the built in Vista Firewall with bi-directional protection? I think he turned off outbound protection at one point due to problems.
