Phone line died, then BB died.

[link to this post]

Friday afternoon our phone line went dead, no dial tone, and whenever i dialed the house number, it came up engaged.

Saturday afternoon it came back up, but without the net.

The router status page kept saying LCP is allowed to come up, but that was all it would do.

After 3 phone calls to customer services, two of which said they would call back within 30 minutes and never did, it seems to have suddenly come back up (all the talktalk cs people said it wasnt a problem their end, so i dunno)

Now its connected, but instead of the 8123 kbps I had Thursday evening, its now 5801 kbps. Is the user talktalk2ndline still active, as he sorted it for me last time.

It seems to stay connected for a while, then drops out fora second, then comes back up.

Its been a nightmare testing things this weekend, but its the first real trouble we have had since signing with talktalk.

Its been dropping all night, after a bit of googling i tried changing the MTU from 1458 to 1400, and its worked ok for the last half hour, which is better than it was !

If I call talktalk customer services will they be able to change the target SNR margin for me ?

Ok, the guys at talktalkmembers helped somewhat, but im still no closer to having the reliable connection i had a month ago.

I now get a few days connection, then it starts to drop every 5 minutes or so.

I have tried a new router, tried new phone leads/adsl leads, new microfilters, nothing seems to be fixing it.

Anyone got any ideas ?

For what it's worth, I've just made a post in the ISP unhappiness forum regarding an issue with the exact same symptoms.

Phone line went dead one weekend, voice eventually came back but not the BB. BB came back briefly and now nothing for a week.

TalkTalk are unable to explain what happened or why the connection won't work so they are trying to wash their hands of it by claiming it might be the router even though we've tried 3 and their own modem (which they claim isn't their responisibility).

I honestly can't believe how inept and irresponsible their support has proven on this.

Their foreign call center employees told me the router we have was incompatible with talktalk, even though it has been working fine for about a year.

The next (british) person I spoke to told me it was compatible.

TBH, the people at talktalkmembers.com have been a lot more helpful than the clowns on the other end of the phone.
