Speed and Talktalk forum sign up problem

Hi all

My friend got his Talktalk line (LLU) activated on Monday. His stats are as follows:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4735 kbps 914 kbps
Line Attenuation 42.0 db 20.3 db
Noise Margin 11.6 db 12.5 db

His real throughput is 4mbps (measured am/pm night etc). Its a constant 4mbps. With those stats I believe he should be able to get quite a bit more, somewhere between 6.5 to even 8mbps.

Rather then phone the Talktalk help line (pants!) I suggested to him that he sign up on the Talktalk Members forum. Problem is that whenever he tries to do that he gets the message that his line is not TalkTalk enabled etc etc etc.

Two things:

1) Would you agree that with his stats he could be squeezing quite a bit more out of his connection? Could it be that he has been put solely on ADSL rather then ADSL2+ if so he is quite willing to pay the £4 per month for the speed boost. Possibly his profile has been set to low?

2) Can anyone advise how to get his account activated on the members forum. Any Talktalk admin here that I can PM with his Talktalk landline and details?

I also can't get signed up - says my account number / telephone isn't active

As for the stats, you can get the profile changed, he's on a default 12dB interleaved profile.

Talktalkboy very kindly moved me onto a 6dB Fast profile, from a PM on here.

Hopefully someone from the TalkTalkMembers forum reads here and updates their forum database with new customers accounts details

Thanks Buklez - glad to hear its going ok for you. I have my friends phone number and account number and am simply waiting for a Talktalk admin to contact me - not happened as yet. (UPDATE - Been contacted by Talktalk Boy - appreciate that, thanks)

I also signed up with Talktalk (just yesterday) so will need to wait for a few weeks till its all up and running. Just hope its as fast as advertised (all the time). I should match your speeds as well, or get even higher. My own stats are:

attenuation 9db noise margin 13.5db - so hope to hit 18 or even 20!

edit p.s. I suspect the 6db fast path might be too much for his line but who knows - he doesn't game so interleaving is fine but a download speed of 7 or even 8mbps would be great for him

There is an issue with the Trio billing system, in that it can take a week to 2 weeks for the new users database to be passed to the Forums for update.
