To find out the IP address to log into the routers. Make sure the router is plugged in to your PC then:

Windows XP:click start button-->click Run-->type cmd hit enter-->type ipconfig hit enter then look for default gateway (that's the IP of your router)

Windows Vista click Start button-->type cmd into search box and hit enter-->type ipconfig hit enter and again it's the default gateway.

Not sure which router is best though.

Bare in mind you'll need to know the default username and password for your routers. Should be in your instructions somewhere, if not use Google to find out.

I too have just joined TalkTalk and was sent the D-Link router. I asked around this and TalkTalk's own forum and the general consensus was that the D-Link router is to be avoided. (Not sure about the Huawei)

I reflashed my Sky Netgear and it works fine on TalkTalk. How do you find the TalkTalk software Assist & Go and Connect & go? I found it pretty naff and don't use it at all.

Having said that, I like the TalkTalk experience so far. Good round the clock speeds - far better than the 6pm+ throttling I was getting from Sky.

The d-link has problems with VPN connections. Other then that I don't think there is much to chose between them. I too am joining Talktalk and I got the Huwei. I go live on Friday 27th. My friends that are on our exchange are very happy with it with constant speeds at all times. Be aware that Bittorrents are completely throttled most of the time.

Cheers

Are you on Talktalk LLU or using a BT line?

Had talktalk almost 3 weeks now, no downtime, full speeds at all times of the day, pings go up from 23/24ms to around 35ms at peak times, but you don't notice unless you're a gamer.

And the support from talktalkmembers forum is second to none!

TalkTalk 24MB ADSL2+
Downstream: 17955 kbps 22.5dB Loss 6.4dB SNR
Upstream:1019 kbps 11.6dB Loss 9.8dB SNR

The IP address for both routers is 192.168.1.1

The huawei is the better and more reliable of the two.

If you want faster pings, ask on the TTMembers forum to be moved onto a Fastpath profile. The default profiles are all interleaved.
