In that case you're almost certain to get the full 24 meg sync...even taking into account the potential 2-4db increase in attenuation when going from ADSL1>ADSL2+. You may not even need to ask TalkTalk to adjust the SNR from 12 to 6db to achieve the full 24 meg sync. Fancy swapping homes? LOL

TT are no better than BT surely. If BT is cheaper stick with BT, but if TT is cheaper (taking into account if you have to pay cancellation with BT) then it makes sense to make the move. Don't spend money unnec. between these two companies!

Why should the OP stick with a BT 'up to 8 meg service' (ie no BT 21CN at his exchange) when he can get TalkTalk ADSL2+ 'up to 24 meg' service? TalkTalk LLU beats a BT (spit) ADSL1 service any day....faster speeds, no slow down at peak times and far far cheaper. No brainer really.

By matching router chipset to DSLAM chipset If i use any broadcom router, then cannot sync any higher than 16.5 meg (on a 6db noise margin), yet using a Infineon router (Draytek 120 v2) i sync at just under 18.5 meg.

We are looking at £143 to cancel with BT witch is fine by us, we was expecting it to be more than that. A lot more.

There is 4 people here in this house and 8Mb down and 448K up is just not enough when all of us are on the internet at the same time.

With TalkTalk now providing LLU services we can get 24mb from them.

On top of that we was paying BT the following:

£14.90 Line Rental
£21 Option 3 Broadband
£35.90 Per Month.

With TalkTalk we will be paying:

Broadband With Evening & Weekend calls £3.25
Line rental £14.50
£17.75 Per Month.

After 6 months is goes up to £21 a month from £17.75 and that's much cheaper that BT

Its just a shame we all have to wait 2 weeks to get this

Broadband Option 3 and Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan has a termination charge of £8.25 per month. Was it that package you cancelled, with a bit over 17 months remaining?

And yes, that's a lot less than £35.90 * 17! Everyone seems to hate on Ofcom, but it was they who pressed the telcos to lower their termination fees.

We are coming up to our 3rd month into a 18 month contract.
