Re: LLU Speed question

On a downstream attenuation of 21 db, you should easily be getting 20 meg never mind 18 @ 6db noise margin.I'm also on TalkTalk and my line is longer than yours (29 db atten) yet i'm getting 18.5 meg. Once TT have lowered your profile to 6db noise margin, if your sync speed is < 20 meg, then consider using a Danube Infineon chipset router...most newer Draytek routers will be fine or the Netgear DGN1000 is a cheaper alternative.

Sorry Myth but to carry on your analogy, I've took my car to the mechanic numerous occasions now and they are useless and think i should be delighted at my new lower speed.

I tried to sign up to the forum last night but it wouldnt accept my telephone number and account number that i copied and pasted direct from the talk talk account page, so I've sent them an email to sort it out.

When i finally get on, I'll be able to request the profile to be set (not reset) at 6db.

I am also tempted to buy a newer router, even though I know my router is capable of 18 meg.
ASUS RT-N66U seems to get good reviews

no need to be sorry, we are agreeing with each other. I was just saying there might be an issue that has developed so the instability argument may be valid, but not trying to fix the underlying issue would be pretty poor practice for the ISP.

I was one of the first to sign up with TalkTalk when they started (well, I signed up my parents) and the logins, passwords etc never worked anywhere. Nothing changes eh smile

They seemed to go through all the motions but nothing happened really. Something must have happened somewhere as I was on 2 meg for a few days. I'll try the 6db thing and report back what happens. I was toying with the newer router mainly for the gigabit ports so I might speed that process up too.

Thanks for the input guys.

TalkTalk Support will never win any prizes for fast fault resolutions and the login problems on there forum are well documented .

If you have sent them an Email about this they hopefully will get to you in a couple of days and then it will be a couple of days for them to respond to your post , three or even four days if you post on a Friday afternoon as the forum is only staffed during weekdays .

Its not perfect but still its better than the phone support .
