In reply to a post by MrSaffron:
If the landline (voice) is not working when all the ADSL hardware is unplugged from the line, including filters, then its report a voice fault to TalkTalk the state of the broadband is irrelevant.

Fixing voice is likely to improve broadband anyway

Thanks very much,

I too am having problems with the speed on this modem/router,

This is my present speed
Modulation : ADSL2+
Annex Mode : Annex A/L
Line State : up
Lan Tx : 684531
Lan Rx : 510494
ADSL Tx : 232596
ADSL Rx : 259848
CRC Down : 0
CRC Up : 64
FEC Down : 0
FEC Up : 18452
HEC Down : 893
HEC Up : 0
SNR Up : 6.0
SNR Down : 10.4
Line Attenuation Up : 25.8
Line Attenuation Down : 51.0
Data Rate Up : 1010
Data Rate Down : 3856

Prior to getting this router I was getting around 5meg on the Talktalk router, which is what i was predicted given the distance to the exchange.

The master socket is in my daughters bedroom, so i have used a splitter socket at the master socket and run Network twisted pair cable to a socket in the hall below. There are no other phone sockets.

I am not too sure about how to best use the stability adjustment so have left it disabled. I dont seem to be having disconnect issues though

The other thing i cannt get to work is Talktalk IPTV. The on demand stuff works fine but not the live TV over internet. I have set up the bridge in the WAN settings, and have also specified a port for the IPTV. When i do this though the box wont connect to the internet.

The IPTV stuff may rely on certain QoS settings. The TV QoS part of the Asus router may be the place to fiddle but without any indication of the settings from TalkTalk you are playing a long guessing game.

In terms of performance, I found the router worked fine on both a BT WBC DSLAM and a Sky one, but it is possible that the way TalkTalk have configured their hardware at the exchange that the Asus does not like it as much.

Your SNR down of 10dB is costing you some speed though this link illustrates this
http://www.coolwebhome.co.uk/calc/index.php?param=RG...

The range of speeds to expect is 3300Kbps to 5600Kbps
With a 6dB target noise margin you should get around 4491 Kbps

Thank you for your quick response

Is that SNR of 10dB something which Talktalk have to change?
Talktalk settings IGMP

is the IGMP setting for IPTV but i couldnt find a corresponding entry on the Talktalk router.

the talktalk tv service uses a different VCI/VPI.

If you look around the talktalk router you should find what it is. The ADSL is 38/0 and the TV one is Sixty something /0

TalkTalk 24Mb
Current Line Status

Connection Speed 24272 Kbps 1019 Kbps
Line Attenuation 14.5 dB 5.5 dB
Noise Margin 0.3 dB 11.8 dB

I have the same unit
My firmware is 300.4.374_159 and it says it's the latest (Got me worried now).
My encapsulation is LLC

With AOL and no real problems except the data seems odd, but actual performance better than the two AOL routers I have as spares.

I agree with you about total lack of information on the various perimeters that could be changed, so not even sure if it's working at it's best - but then, I'm one of the few left quiet happy with AOL (that should make me regret those words!)
