MaxADSL

[link to this post]

Hi
I hope this is the right board, let me know if it isn't. I am currently signed up to Eclipse for the MaxADSL service up to 8mb but am only getting 1.8mb max. I live within 0.5 of a mile of the exchange and my line attenuation is less than 32db upstream and downstream.

My question is should I expect any better speeds?

My official connection date is tomorrow (18 Sept) but I have been able to use the service since Wednesday. Will the official date make any difference, i.e. will someone flick a magic switch somewhere to allow me to get the full line potential of 6.5Mbs???

Wait until 10 days 'training' period is up.

Thanks, thought I was the only one up this late.

Do you mean there is the possibility it might increase after the training period?

The interesting things are your IP Rate and the actual modem downstream speed.

Don't listen to mythology about 10 day periods

AFAIK the 10 day period is only to set the MSR fault threshold nothing to do with data rate.

Yep, but if speed hasn't increased after the 10 days training, then he can do BT Speedtest and see what is BRAS profile is and see if thats the problem.

but the BRAS profile is supposed to follow the modem up within 75 minutes when a line goes Max, not take 10 days.

Yeah, but my point was that theres no point worrying about BRAS if it hasn't increased until 10 days is up, as if he speaks to his ISP about low speeds during the training period, they'll say wait until the 10 days are up.

that depends on the ISP, but many are like you say and fail to differentiate between sync speeds and data rates.
