Help with DMT - Connection problem?

[link to this post]

I have a belkin router, I type the IP in the ip-ass box, but my router doesn't have a user, but DMT requires me to use one.

What does anyone else use to connect to a belkin router through DMT?

Are you using a Belkin 7633? First check if the telnet interface is working. If it isn't then I think you need to change the firmware. If it is then the user name is admin.

The IP address is the same as the IP address you connect to when using the router's web interface, the user is admin, and the password is the same the router's web interface. As I said though, do check whether you can get a telnet connection to the IP address first. There was a batch of 7633 routers sold (reportedly in PCWorld) that had the telnet interface disabled. As the DMT tool relies on the telnet interface then this batch of routers don't work with the tool.

telnet? (Just run the command 'telnet <IP address>', no quotes or brackets.)

C:\Users\S****>telnet 192*****
'telnet' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

thats what it says...

thought it was quite easy to log into this DMT

Ok, thanks for your help so far...

I have now adjusted the noise margin slider in DMT to the 2nd from the bottom notch, my router now reads

Downstream
Data rate 3424
Noise margin 9.9
Output power 17.7
Attenuation 56.0

How will I no this is going to be stable now ive altered the noise margin, what do I look for via DMT/router?

thanks
