Hi Everyone,
Need some help here. My broadband is now live but it won't work.
Opened up the bt socket and none of the wires are connected so confused as to where does everything connect up to?
I got 4 wires inside. Green, orange, blue and brown
Got connections A and B inside and 1 to 6 on the faceplate.
THanks in advance
Adeel

Does the telephone work?

Do you have any extensions? If not, nowt should be connected to faceplate.
Have your tried BB in hidden test socket revealed by faceplate?
Photos might help.

Ok, does the phone work?
|
|
|
As others have asked does your normal telephone work?
If yes, then the ADSL should work if you use filters as shown in the guide your provider should have sent out.
If the phone does not work, can you confirm whether the telephone has ever worked on this line and are you paying voice line rental?

No wires connected.
I can see the four coloured wires coming into the box but inside the wires have been disconnected and isolated.
I have just moved into this flat and paying for voice line and broadband

|
So, how do you make phone calls?
Do you pay BT or another provider for the voice service?
If you do, then you need to call BT and tell them you have no actual service on the incoming line. If it is a real fault, then BT will NOT charge.

Ok rewind......
I ordered bt broadband and phone.
I get email confirmation that engineer doesnt need to visit and that your services are now live
Just moved in so do not have a phone so just hooked up the router...did not work....took things in my own hand and opened up the socket...wires isolated
Jumped on this forum. .... Now i need help to connect wires since they are giving me 13th of december for engineer to visit

You CANNOT touch those wires or terminate them in any way. You will leave yourself open to legal action if you do. And YES people have been prosecuted for tampering with lines.
13th December is unacceptable for a major fault especially after you were told service was available - so go back to BT and tell them that you expect a visit next week They have confirmed availability but with it not being there are contractually at fault and you have good reason for an expedited visit.

Go out and buy a cheap corded phone 1st before you mess with BT's property.
If you get no dialling tone in the the test socket then report it as a voice fault to BT. You are paying them for a line and it's not working. They have a target to fix voice faults within 3 days or you get compensation.

Photos will help to avoid confusion, as the removeable face plate has no wires attached to it if there are no extensions in the property. The incoming wires are connected to two screw terminals usually on the bit of the socket that remains attached to the wall.
Buying a cheap corded phone is a thing worth having, as any faults will ask you to check the phone before they book an engineer
