Disconnections

Hi All,

Can anyone give me a clue as to why my line keeps dropping(sometimes after a few mins). The only value that looks iffy to me is the upstream output power at 14db. Could this be causing my problem ?. If so, is there anything I can do to rectify this ?

Namesco 512k download with a Zyxel P660RxC router.

The main BT socket has an extension off it (connected inside the socket). Just before the socket on the BT main wire is another device(looks old, oval shaped) but I don't know what is does.

All phones have been unplugged.

the noise margins are very high so I doubt its a signal issue. Does it lose sync and retrain ?

Downstream Attenuation 11dB - good for 8M let alone 512k.

Possibly. I've never waited more than a minute or two before restarting the router.

So what about the output power levels ?

I read that they should be below 15db, so 14db is pretty close.

why would the power levels matter if there's a huge margin ?

I suspect they are reported the wrong way round, as upstream power tends to be 11.x dB

the downstream power will be restricted from the full 20 dBm as you only have 512k so it doesn't need the full bandwidth.

Tried different hardware ?

What exactly happens with these "disconnections" ? My router takes 20 seconds to resync so unless I stare at the light I don't necessarily see it happen.

I was only guessing based on some info I read.

I haven't tried different hardware as yet, although I will borrow a router from work to try this weekend.

The line will drop and not reconnect. I tend to manually restart the router after a min or two because nothing happens.

On the initial connection (when the router is switched on), the dsl led establishes a connection for a few seconds, the led then goes out and it repeats the connection process. When the led stays lit the second time the connection is fine for anywhere between 1 and 20ish mins(best yet).

Yes it does.

the other router's the best bet. Perhaps there is too much signal - try feeding it though the wrong side of a microfilter.

I'll try that too.
