At 23.49, speedtester.bt.com reported:
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7648 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2580 kbps
Immediately after, adslguide.org.uk (this site) gave:
Downstream 216.9 Kbps ( = 0.2 Mbps )
Why such a massive difference - more than tenfold? And I know that the adslguide result reflects the experience I've been having.
Is this contention at its worst and does the BT speedtester lie? Or is it that virgin.net is suffering its own problems? I'm on the Brentwood exchange.
I've just managed to get my profile up to 6.5Mbps after being stuck at 0.5Mbps due to an internal wiring problem. Yesterday I was getting a range of 2.5Mbps to 5.5Mbps, which I was understandaby happy with.
Another question, is contention controlled by the individual ISP or will everyone on a BT exchange be bundled into the same lot to suffer together regardless of ISP. And if that's the case, are some LLUs better on that front?
This ADSL Max is driving me up mad!
