ADSL2+ question

[link to this post]

Am on a long 4.7km line and i was wonder if adsl2 is really rate adaptive that could help me a bit as at some times i can connect as high as 4mbit. Would it have any point to be on the adsl2 product? does adsl2 works as in adjusting the speed of your line according to the noise with no disconnection?

I may be mistaken, but I think because of the way the sync speed on ADSL2 drops off on long distance lines then you may get faster speeds with max DSL.

You're referring to SRA (Seamless Rate Adaptation), which is an option on ADSL2+. Whether it works depends on your ISP, your modem model and your modem configuration. The Easynet LLU infrastructure (as used by UKOnline and Sky Broadband) is reported to support this - search for SRA in the UKOnline forum for the situation with modem compatibility. ADSL2+ also has better resistance to noise and so can give you better speeds anyway, although in practice this again depends on ISP and modem compatibility.

Then keep away from BE or Bulldog, as neither implement SRA (seamless rate adaptation), which allows a router to switch sync speeds, according to current noise levels, without having to drop sync.
