Very Consistenly Slow "Broadband"

[link to this post]

Hi,
A few months ago my broadband was completely fine at around 1Mbp/s. But then it began to fluctuate greatly and a few weeks ago I was receiving speeds at 128kbp/s consistenly and a very unstable connection. I then requested my MAC code and moved to BT, this service was activated last wednesday. I am well aware of BRAS synching etc in the first 10 days. But after 3 days of use i am still receiving a 128kbp/s down speed! I contacted BT and they seemed to ignore me as this is before the 10 day period but still, a 128kbp/s down speed is pretty slow, considering im paying for up to 8Mb. The other strange factor is that my Upload speed is around 400kbp/s! This is really strange as all equipment is exactly the same setup as when i received 1Mbp/s. I was just wondering if anyone would have any suggestions/ advice on what i can do!

Many Thanls

You should start by testing at the NTE with all else disconnected, as described in this link. You then might be able to help 'us' to help you by posting more info like attenuation and snr readings, also current sync speed.

Hi, Thanks for the help, but I am living in a very old house, and we dont actually have a NTE5 Master socket, the master is just a standard telephone socket. Shame, as i cant test without internal wiring in the equation. But i can give you some stats from the router plugged into the master. Its synching with an Upload speed of 448, and Download of 1,248. output Power Down: 16.0 dBm, Up: 11.5 dBm; line Attenuation Down: 55.0 dB, Up: 31.5 dB; snr Margin Down: 12.5 dB, Up: 16.0 dB). Seems very strange why its so slow as the synch rate is quite high. Thanks for your help

Thanks for your replay, but my BT box is the old type so it will not work, but if I disconnect all the phone lines from the splitter ti makes no difference to the speed.
If you can tell me how to find info like attenuation and snr readings and sync speed I will let you have them.
this is very slow response by me but two previous replies did not send as the preview box was clicked , andit stopped the message goimg even though i clicked on the next continue buttons still I am I hope learning as I go along
