Adive required over new Max connection

[link to this post]

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 36 db 10 db
Noise Margin 3 db 24 db

Above are my stats and I am 800m from the exchange. I have been connected for three days and my upload throughput has been a steady 383kb/s.

Initially my download speed remained at 1980kb/s but has now dropped to a 512 kb/s connection speed. I have stayed connected at the above speed virtually since it switched over.

One prob might be that the router got switched off overnight without my knowledge. Will this have affected things?

Can anybody tell me whether I can expect to start seeing better speeds?

Is it worth connecting the router to the main socket (it is currently on an extension) and connecting wirelessly as I can't really move my PC?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Your attenuation suggests that even though your straight line distance may be about 800m from the exchange, your line takes longer route. Either that or you have a very noisy line - this is also backed up by your very low noise margin on 3db. I'd expect around 8 or 9db noise margin on a line with the length of yours. Have you tried plugging your router into the test socket behind the lower plate of your master socket?
