Please help

[link to this post]

I always seem to get very low speeds on my line, despite me synching at the max or thereabouts of 8096 kpbs.

I've never had above 1.2Mb on speedtests, whether they be the bt one or the one provided by this site.

I was wondering if anyone could please comment on my line speeds below and tell me if they're good, bad, indifferent.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.0 db 14.5 db
Noise Margin 12.6 db 22.0 db

Could be exchange congestion. Or a low BT Profile.

Have you tried running the BT Speedtester? Might be best to do it early morning or late at night, more chance of it working properly.

http://speedtester.bt.com

Once you've managed to do that, paste the results here so we can have a look.

Your stats look good, and if you are sure of your synch speed, then you are being throttled somewhere. Who is your ISP?

Thanks to both of you for the quick replies, at least I now know the problem is not my wiring etc.

Unfortunately, I'm with Eclipse Internet - they don't get a lot of good press in the forums, so I'm not alone.

I've got a feeling, along with the other fella that replied, that my exchange may be congested - I looked for info on samknows, but there isn't any available for my exchange.

My exchange has been unbundled by Be, but I feel it is unfair of my ISP to be (possibly )throttling my connection to the point where website fail to load, my laptop where my wife plays online poker continually disconnects, and my max d/l speeds on p2p networks rarely gets about 30kb/s. I don't even do a lot of p2p, not even because of the above either - just as well!

The other thing to look at is your MTU. Sorry, you'll have to search the site or google around for advice. Other than that, you may be on LLU with Tiscali, in which case you might need to think about moving.

My profile is set at 7000kbps

I used the bt speedtester there and, better than normal, got 2075 or thereabouts.

Eclipse have asked me to perform a series of tests on http://st.tstools.co.uk/ and send them the results - the one I did before the bt one gave me 809.91 Kbps.

I will conduct their request and hopefully find a problem and solution.
