connected to sky max

just connected to sky broadband from aol was slightly worried as while the switch was going on both adsl and the telephone was offline.

im about half a mile from the exchange
my stats are

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15323 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 31.5 db 17.9 db
Noise Margin 10.1 db 12.0 db

my line attenation has jumped from 21 on adsl max to 31 on sky is this usual ?

my speed has increased from about 6.7mb to 13.1mb so im happy

Yes, switching to ADSL2+ can increase the attenuation figure. You could try tweaking target SNR with this: http://dg834gt.mognuts.com/NetgearRouterUtility.html

Not sure how successful you will be at getting any speed increase.

Don't worry, the attenuation has not actually increased - they haven't stretched your line! The attenuation figure reported by the modem is just an average attenuation across all frequencies used by ADSL. Attenuation is higher at higher frequencies, and ADSL2+ uses a whole range of higher frequencies in addition to the ADSL1 frequencies. So the average attenuation is larger simply because the average now includes the higher attenuation of the line at these new frequencies.

As to whether you can increase the speed - try experimenting with the DMT tool to reduce your downstream noise margin.
