Mysterious outage...

[link to this post]

Any suggestions for what went wrong?

I had an adsl outage lasting about 6 hours last night and can't for the life of me work out what went wrong...

I am with Entanet and still connected to the same central (inconclusive I know)

An application I run lost connectivity overnight about midnight and regained it around 6:00am this morning.

An overnight download I had scheduled failed but ran fine when manually started this morning (using flashget)

PRTG graphs show there was zero traffic but the router and PC were both up OK as the trace still runs at zero - if either fail it disappears completely.

Exctract from router log..

Nothing on EntaNOC which reports outages

Did an elephant stand on my phone line is is there a more likely explanation?
Both sync and PPP session appear to have been maintained but two seperate apps couldn't connect. I have done nothing to restart or reset my LAN.

Could this have affected you, though apart from one loss of session around the time quoted which my router reconnect automatically and immediately, I then ran all night without further problems.

Only if Dr Who was involved

That was last night and I had the full benefits of that one too. The problem I've outlined above was the night before.

TBH as it's pretty much inexplicable I wasn't expecting any responses. I'll maybe have to look at my elephant scarer again - strange as it's worked so far - at least I haven't seen any elephants in the neighbourhood.

Maybe I'll get a fault free night tonight?

I don't even have an elephant scarer and I haven't seen any recently either, yours must be effective all the way to Bristol as well

Sorry, with the NOC report about last night fresh in my mind I totally missed you sayng it was the night before, i.e. Tuesday.
