Am I Max'd out

[link to this post]

Hello,
I am going through the first week of upping from 2MB to MaxDSL 'up to 8MB'....

My router says... Up/Down 448 / 8128

But the Speedtest sites put me at between 373-382/ 1966-2027

I am 325m as the crow flies from the exchange and according to one site the line attenuation is 7.0/12.5 dB

with SN Margin 21.0/15.0 dB

Q. Am I Max'd out because my router has sync'd at 8MB??

Q2. Is it just the usual... Macs don't do the speedtests very well???

Q3. Should I just try and download a file and measure speed that way??

A

After reading another post... the speedtester.bt.com site gave this...

IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1789 kbps

Your line to the exchange appears to be as good as it gets. The cause of your slow data rates is elsewhere - perhaps contention with other users.

You could try the BT tester at 7.30am in the morning, it's normally fairly quiet then and that would give you an indication of your likely speed.

Trying it in the evening is a waste of time, as it's peak time for users, and contention issues, etc. are likely to return low values.

as no one else appears to have said this

you could be on the initial 2meg training period, first 3-5 days are usually at 2meg and then it should speed up after that.

I'd do q3 anyways

They're not though - their BT Speedtester results show they are on a 7150kbps profile.
