Line with mood swings? whats going on?

I requested interleaving turned off which happend after a few days and all was well, had a nice 16ms ping to the bbc and connected at around 3.8mb. A day or two after that interleaving reappeared the line connected at over 5mb giving me a bad latency and meaning it dropped in the evening back down to the 4mb mark. Again a day after that interleaving turned back off and settled at 3.6mb for about three more days which I was happy about.
Now today its flicked itself back on and i'm getting:
IP profile for your line is - 3000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 5856 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
I don't understand why this automated system is hell-bent on screwing up my line, once the Snr in the router drops in the evening it forces a resync (despite it being around 6db) which again is somewhat pointless as ive seen it sit at 5048 all night with a 20m rat chewed phone extension and a cheap microfilter.
Is there any reason for this? or am i doomed to suffer random drop outs and an ip profile of 3000!!

The automated system is hell-bent on giving you a reliable line (at least in theory).

You must have sync'd at less than 4000 kbps recently to get a profile of 3000 kbps.

If you want to improve reliability do as much as you can your end to stabilize matters.

Agree with John,
Obviously the interleaving was turned on for a reason (instability) and needs to be there.
Except for wanting low ping times for gaming is there any reason for turning it off?
Surely a stable connection is better than an intermittent one.

This is the problem! It was sat with interleaving turned off at 3.6mb without a disconnection in days and giving me a nice ping for playing fps games. Now interleaving is back on and its connected at 5.8 which will disconnect in the evening, just making it more unstable. I've got a decent faceplate (XTE-2005) and shielded 2m cable for the router. It's just giving me a problem, going from a stable line with low ping to an unstable one with high ping and whats worst is i dont think theres anything I can do about it. I'm confused why its doing all that and just making a mess of things.

Is this a long-standing problem or has it only just started happening?

Interleaving may be a bit of a red-herring. I'm not sure if, on or off, it could cause the sort of problems you are describing.

If you used to have stable line (albeit with high ping times) then something else must have happened to cause the instability. Either internal or external.
