So basically, I'm on a residential line with respect to all equipment

Correct. Had you gone for a Max Premium 832k upstream product then you may have expected better performance at times of congestion but the product you picked is the same at exchange level as the one you left.

this fault must be purely coincidental

Possibly, it may also be different traffic management or different loads on servers further up. Did your login realm change - the bit after the @ you put in the router connection field ?

There's a shedful of residential ISPs that give you static IPs, if dyndns etc aren't good enough. Probably get more than 10 GB/month for the money too.

Yes, my login realm did change - I'm now [email protected], can't remember what I used to be, but I'm sure it wasn't that.

So I started an 18mth contract in Jan. If BT advertise 99.99% reliability and I'm not experiencing that, then the contract is void, right?

Do they ? that's less than one hour of downtime per year. You didn't say the connection was failing ?

From a read it seems the connection is running fine in terms of ADSL connection speeds, but user is reporting variation in throughput?

This is to be expected, now if it was on a 6000Kbps sync and you only only down speedtests of 4000Kbps+ once a month then that would be bad, but if its just random variation it may be down to the random nature of contention, or the traffic management policies of the service provider.

Not sure if your router displays them, but as well as monitoring the sync speed and noise margins take a look for error counters, if these are zero or small then it points much more towards contention.

28.25 for 10GB per month (which is down and up combined) with the static IP is VERY expensive.

For example Zen Active 8000 is 25 with a 25GB download allowance and single static or block of 8 IPs (5 useable)

correct, their issue is that when on BT's home service they got better throughputs and didn't expect the more expensive business service to be worse.
